Topic: RE: STAPLELINE BREAKDOWN?
I had a bleed at the staple line that they referred to as a breakdown. I ended up having 2 transfusions before going home following my RNY. 8 days later, I was rushed by ambulance and flown to my original hospital for an anastomic leak that came from the staple line. I had passed my "pictures" in radiology after my surgery, so it was very strange if not almost unheard of to have the leak that far out, normally ithappens within the first 24 hours. I did almost die, and there was nothing that I or my Dr. did to cause it, and nothing that could have predicted it. The best advice I can give is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. If something doesn't feel right, you need to insist that it gets checked out. My profile has more info about my experience.

What type of surgery did you have because many surgeons remove the old stomache then is severed from the pouch-especially if it is RNY
Topic: RE: Peroneal nerve palsy - Help I need info!
Could you please explain a little more about your condition. I was recently diagnossed with mortons neuroma in the bottom of my feet- it is extremely painful and I can barely walk. I have been to a podiatrist and am going to be fitted with special orthodics. If that doesn't work then its the shots then maybe surgery where the nerve is cut. I am a reflexologist so am pretty familiar with the feet and am wondering myself if this is due to malabsortion of the b vitamins since the bs affect the nerves in our body. There are over 7000 nerve endings in the feet alone so am not too surprised by some of this. My weightloss surgery is not what one would deem a success. I lost very little but am sure I still have malabsorption issues. Good luck with your therapy.

When you have WLS they cut your stomach into.....makeing your small pouch and leaving the rest of your old stomach there. So you really have 2 stomachs now. My old part has stopped working, causeing me alot of pain.

Topic: RE: Post-op Depression
Hi Maxie and thanks for your response. I am starting to feel better both physically and emotionally. I just wish that during the 6 months of structured classes I had to take to have this surgery that post-op depression had been mentioned at least once!!

Thanks Kellyanne for the honesty and support. I am starting to feel much better but I do miss my old eating habits. I know in time this will lessen and of course I will be able to eat a larger variety of foods in the future so I have a positive to look foreword too. I am not quite ready to say I am happy that I had the procedure but I think I will get there eventually!

Yes - its caused by losing the fat pad between the nerve and the bone thus allowing the nerve to be compressed. I am seeing a neuologist & having an EMG this friday. Going to physical therapy
3 times a week and doing special exercises 3 times a day also. Being fitted for special foot braces today after pt. This has happened so fast - in just 3 weeks I am walking with a cane and
my life has been turned upside down. Doing everything the dr's want me to plus I have increased all my B-vitamins that someone suggested I do. I can still drive but its becoming more difficult to drive over an hour & a half which I did friday to see my WLS dr.
It's a wait and see type of situation as its so rare. The Physical therapy dr. caught on to what it was due to the fact that it has affected both feet. With my back problems it would have affected only one foot not both. So I am hanging in there and praying it doesn't get worse.
Thanks - Shannon

It can't be prevented w/ RNY but if you are insulin resistant/ hypoglycemic pre-op don't have RNY. I have read it is much more likely you would develop this. I developed this to some extent about 18 mos post-op. Alot of post RNYs talk about it on here. It is referred to as reactive hypoglycemia. And usually happens 1 to 2 hours after eating a high/mostly carb food. See melting mamaish blog. She has a bad case of it. Mine is alot better now that I have gained 40 lbs back. I was at goal when it started.

I looked it up on the internet and it doesn't sound like it could be caused by WLS. Have you seen an orthopedic Doctor?
