Topic: Removal of Band
Hello. I posted this on the other forum as well. I am having my band and gall bladder removed in two weeks. Has anyone done these two procedures together? I have had a lot of problems with my band; from throwing up daily, to pouch dilation, to slippage. I am happy to have it removed but want to get beyond this surgery so bad. I went to a new surgeon who ordered testing that found the gall stones. I will have my surgery done outpatient, which I am not crazy about. Anyone been through this?

Topic: RE: Tired of feeling this way... anyone help???
Well since I had to make a new membership since I had not post since the first year of my surgery, until then I had been to this site a lot.. My suggestion to you is that you find a surgeon to give you a second opinion. It won't be easy because most Doctors do not like to look at others mistakes or second guess. I know first hand this was my problem. I should have done that as soon as I felt as if my surgeon was not listening to me or like you said sick of me. This past March 30 2008 was 5 years since my surgery and I still have PTSD from all the problems and I will continue to have problems the rest of my life. In fact one of my reasons for starting back here is to get and give support. I'm having a very rough time now basically I am very malnourished because of the complications the normal protocol for maintaining your nutrition does not work for me. Believe me I follow the book because I'm so afraid of doing anything to mess things up worse then what they are. Well this is my first post and my first advice get another opinion and find a doctor that listens to his patients. best of luck gigi

I now have bilateral (both) peroneal nerve palsy which the dr's are telling is from my wls surgery. This is very rare and I can find almost no information on this.
Would appreciate any information any one has.

Topic: RE: Ulcers in remnant stomach and assoc with cancer
I've seen a few people posting about issues with the remnant stomach here and at quix.com. You might want to check there. Here there is a girl named Amy Berry (I believe) who has been quite open about her experience.
Wishing you luck.

Topic: RE: Hypoglycemia & Pituitary tumor
I'm just a few weeks short of 5 years out. Lost 110 pounds, got to goal weight, felt great. Ran smack into menopause and gained 25 pounds in 5 months, which has now climbed to +40 pounds. Have been having hypoglycemia problems for maybe 18 months, but did not have diabetes or blood sugar problems at my highest preop weight. The way mine seems to occur is if I eat something with too much sugar, and though I'm usually pretty careful about knowing that 3-4 bites of something sweet is ok, but 5-6 isn't, I will usually dump and I know that feeling. Then, about an hour after dumping, which is caused by the sugars dumping too fast into the digestive tract and into the blood stream, my sugar will plummet, causing me to be lightheaded, shaky, nervous. Happened in a grocery store once, was trying to shop and couldn't read any of the packaging, the words and letters just didn't make sense. I staggered (probably looked drunk) to the candy area and had a couple of small candy bars, which seemed to reverse it. That was the worst attack I can remember. My attacks actually can also be caused by too much carbs, as in pancakes with sugar-free syrup, or really greasy food. With the grocery store incident, I had had an egg, piece of bacon and toast for breakfast at a greasy spoon place that my family frequents every Saturday morning. I've had more than one reaction after eating there, so I've since decided to eat before going and just enjoy the company.
Anyway, I've done a little reading and attended an informational seminar on StomaphyX, which one of the bariatric surgeons (not mine) in the area is going to start performing. I'm considering this for 2 reasons - hopefully to help me lose some or all of the 40 pounds I've regained, and also because it seems to have the effect of improving or curing reactive hypoglycemia in some patients. Still just considering it, but even if it helped with just the hypoglycemia, it might be worh it. Anyone have any experience with StomaphyX helping hypoglycemia? Thanks!
Topic: RE: Has anyone had this problem......
I had RNY also - the old stomach was left in - my surgeons said in the event I needed a revision. But I just posted a related problem with my old stomach - ulcers found at the stapling site - the difficulties they had in getting a G-tube in several times (under CT Scan) because the remnant stomach had flattened out and kept shifting away from their poking.
I too wassurprised at how much bile came out of the old stomach while I had my G-tube in place.
You'll see in my posting that I investigated what they knew about remnant stomachs over the long haul and the answer - nothing - no research except for people who had stomach cancer and had parts removed - not for RNY patients - EXCEPT in lab animals some strong infor that excess bile may be related to erosion of the lining and production of stomach cancer.
My surgeons are at University Hospitals of Cleveland - a friend of mine is bariatric RN at Mayo Clinic - neither place has had much to do with ulcers in the old stomach.
I would be reluctant to take a "currently" healthy stomach - producing some juices and bile - out (in the event I needed a revision) - and am opting for careful following of labs and periodic
G-tube access endoscopies into the old stomach to get cancer early in the game - if thats a real risk for us.
