Once postop it may indeed trigger some old challenging issues (I hope not) as recovery is a lifelong process IMHO, feel free to join once you have your RNY. Issues for preops and posties are similar yet different and this was our decision to choose RNY postop and those with eating issues, your surgery is coming soon!

Hello, I have been looking at these boards sinceJune 2004 but have never posted.  i had RNY surgery in Boca Raton Fl in June 2004 and have given away 150 lbs.  I have managed to keep it off with a sound food plan and being a member of Overeaters Anonymous for 16 years.  Having a sponsor in OA has helped me to keep clean and honest with my food one day at a time so that I don't relapse losing and gaining hundreds of pounds in my 54 years.  An OA way of life using the 12 steps and 8 tools has saved my life.  My 9th tool is my surgery.   There are many OA websites to locate  by just going to google search engine to find  a meeting in your location Thank you for providing this new website for WLS graduates.   G-d Bless Carol

Topic: RE: For those with pernicious anemia after wls-
Hi, I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia 4 months ago. I am getting monthly shots, taking a weekly inhaler and doing the sublinguals daily. I was told it will take 6-9 months to get levels up. The tingling in my arms and legs is still there but slowly getting better. I have been tripping and falling a bit less. I am still very tired and working hard to bring my energy levels back. Sleep is a premium. Making a commitment to animal protein has been the hardest thing for me. I have upped my dairy, meat and eggs and feel better when I do. Good luck on this slow and steady recovery. F

Topic: RE: Lap Band Complications?
I am still researching, but I have heard there are significantly less complications with Lap-Band than with any other WLS. And the ones that there is are more annoying than anything else.

Topic: RE: Removal of Band
Hi. I had my gallbladder removed in Nov 1997. I had to go into the hospital on a Sunday, and I was put on very strong IV antibiotics for 3 days because I had such severe pancreatitis. I had the surgery on a Wednesday and was released on Saturday after my pain was under control and I was able to pass gas AND do a #2 (poo). I also had to be able to get up and walk the hallway at least twice a day. The recovery itself wasnt bad, but I wil warn you, I have had the "dumping syndrome" ever since the surgery. Make sure you drink LOTS of fluids or you will get dehydrated. I had been planning to get the Lap-Band, but now I plan to look more into the switch and VSG, just to know all of my options. RNY is totally out. It scares me to much. Anyway, good luck with the surgery!!!

Topic: RE: Levaquin, ab cramping, and diarehia
If you have not had one...ask for a stool culture for C. Diff.  Very important that this be ruled out. Levaquin is notorious for causing C. Diff.  It is also contagious and you need to be aware of this.  My father has had C. Diff since being treated with Levaquin last Oct. for a rupturing gall bladder. Please have the culture done ASAP. Do not mess around with this.

Topic: RE: had my scope friday
I just had my esophogus stretched Monday and they also found an ulcer. He put me on medicine. Are you still on medicine? Do we have to stay on it? - that's one reason I had surgery to get off some of this stuff. Do you know if this goes away or will we have it forever? Just trying to find answers too.  Thanks!

Topic: Post Op 8 years and multiple problems/complications!Help!

Hey all, I had Lap RNY in 2000 and had no problems until 2004,  I went from 327 to 190 and I am currently holding at 220, which is okay for me as I am 6ft tall.  The problems started when I was six months pregnant, I had to have open surgery on my small bowel for a Peterson's Hernia, this wound was open for 2 months, was hospitalized for 3 weeks as a result and had behind the surgery Pancreatitis.  After delivering daughter 7 weeks early via c-section, a Large incisional hernia came about, and I had to have a mesh put in place.  After this surgery, I had another bout of Pancreatitis. For about 9 months everything was okay, then had another surgery to remove some adhesions, then 6 months later, they finally determine gall bladder is bad so its removed.  Then on Mother's Day of this year, I was again at the ER (they love me), where they determined the appendix needed to come out but also they thought I had enough obstruction, so I wake up to another huge 9 in*****ision, post op I do also get a non-mechanical obstruction, and they put a wonderful NG tube in my nose to my stomach.  At this point I am scared, 6 post op surgeries, I am very weak, I have no insurance anymore and no one will insure me at this point as a result of all my "preexisting" conditions. My original surgeon moved to Florida and will not see me without a $5000 deposit, plus we can't drive the 10 hours to Jacksonville.  My surgeon now thinks I might have ulcers as I am in pain all the time and wants to do a scope.  I am weak, have so many scares, exist on pain meds and in general don't know what to  do.

Anyone with advice?

Thanks

Look at the pictures of a RNY the Y is made when the bowel is conected to the new stomach and the old stomach. THe juices of the old stomach meet up with the food in a different part of the bowel. With the Sleeve they remove the exess stomach.
