Topic: doctor

I'm curious.

Is anyone seeing a doctor other than the one that did the surgery, for you medical problems now?

I do not want to go back to my weight loss surgeon and have some problems I need to see a dr for.

thanks and hello to all

Topic: RE: Complications worth the surgery?
One of the reasons I chose the band was because of its low complication rate.  I couldn't be happier with it.  As of today I have lost 120 pounds.  Yes, part of that was by sticking to Kaiser's 1200 calorie pre-op diet for 6 months, the other part was with the band which merely helps me stick to eating less.  But since June of last year I have lost 120 pounds.   Do your research.  People all have different reasons for the path they take.  Good luck on your journey.

Welcome! You are very smart to do your research before jumping into surgery. I had the DS 11/28/07 and wound up with a wound infection that lasted for about 2 1/2 months. I had home health care daily (and twice daily for a couple of weeks) to come and pack my incision. Although it was not a fun time for me (or my husband) it was well worth the complication. I didn't lose as much weight at first as some I am now on track and down 95 lbs in 7 months. Have you decided what type of WLS you want? I suggest you check out each of the boards to learn as much as you can about each procedure and then decide what is best for you. Good luck! Pat

I'm knew to WLS and I'm doing research trying to make a decision on whether I want to do the surgery.  I need to loose approx. 120 lbs.  I'm trying to understand the possible complications and if it's worth having the surgery??

Topic: RE: Lower back pain, Diarreaha
Hey there!  I know you posted this forever ago, I was wondering what ever happened? You and I both used Riverside Surgical... I really, really love them! Anyway I had Lap GB (RNY) in dec 2005.  I lost 150 lbs.  In October of 2007, at my all time low, I ate something I shouldn't have and it caused a Bowel obstruction. It took two days to pass it with the help of Laxatives and Stool softeners.  I then had six weeks of pain.  Sometimes a burning if I hadn't eaten and all the time lower back pain.  It faded, then came back two months later and stayed for about a month.  Then again same cylcle and am now on the back end of another one! I have all the same problems you do with the diarreah and pain... and gas, and eating too much.  Dr. Strickland send me to a gastrinologist who is clueless. they have me on a muscle relaxer that slows my intestines up and keeps it from cramping.  the problem is that the muscle relaxer counteracts my malabsorbtion and doesn't really stop the pain consistantly.  So I have gained like 10 lbs since October due to the drugs and am still in pain.   My massage therapist had GB also and things maybe the Bowel Obstruction triggered my old stomach to start seriously producing stomach acid again and it is out of sync with the rest of my body so that is causing the burning which causes my intestines to become inflamed and causes them to hurt or push against another organ and make it hurt.   Anyway, any input you have would be helpful! I hope you are doing great!!!  and let me just say this isn't a complication caused by our surgoens or the surgery, it is my own fault I think... Thanks! Cam

Topic: RE: Removal of Band
I know its has been awhile since you posted, but I am thinking of going to rny if I have to have my band removed. Can you tell me how it went for you? Any complications? Any regrets? How have you done after the switch? Thanks, Amy

Topic: Electric shock feeling in my chest-Lap Band patient
I didn't feel I would get much help on the band forum with this but need to know if anyone else has experienced this before. I have been having problems with my band for the past two years. I have had the worst luck with surgeons and have finally found one that is out of state, two hours behind me, and he is not in the office yet this morning. He seems to think I may be eroded. He is ordering tests but we aren't having much luck getting them done since he is out of state and we have to jump through hoops with the hospital in my area to get those tests done. Anyway, I was getting my boys up this morning and I was standing in their room, stretched and OMG! It felt like I had an electric shock in the chest and then the area around my band starting hurting sooooooooooo bad. I doubled over and just clutched my chest. It has eased up a bit but still has a dull pain to it. Any thoughts on what just happened to me?

Topic: RE: Peroneal nerve palsy - Help I need info!

Hi, Shannon.  I am an RN who works in a clinic  of both neurologists and neurosurgeons.  Until last year, my neurosurgeons had only performed peroneal nerve decompressions while in residency, over 15 years ago.  Suddenly, we have seen a significant number of patients with foot drop due to peroneal nerve compression/entrapment, most of whom have had WLS.  Has your neurologist checked your homocysteine and methamalonoic acid levels?  It is possible to have these levels be abnormal, even if your Vitamin B12 is an a low normal range. Good luck in your recovery! Brande, RN

Topic: Anyone have an unlocked band?
I have been banded seven months, have 9cc's in a 10 cc band with no restriction. A recent x-ray was taken and the Dr. says my band is unlocked. Anyone else have this?  What info can you give me about how a band becomes unlocked? How would I know if it was ever locked to begin with. My Dr. says the lock was changed on this new band (Allergan/Inamed). I read the change was made to make it possible to reuse the band if a revision was needed. If my Dr. goes in and locks my band how would I know it can't come unlocked again? If you have an experience with this, I'd love to hear from you. thanks!

I just finished listening to your videos, and I hope and pray that you can avoid pancreatic surgery. My husband listened to it with me, and we both hope that what he wrote is of some help to you. Please let me know, if you can. Therese
