This is a recent new problem of mine. My bariatric surgeon did repair a small internal hernia the last week of 2013. I have recovered from that but I still have my same issues with food, bloating, illness, intolerance of foods, no appetite, spasms, cramping, and more. I had an upper GI which showed that everything was moving through as it shoud be. I was scheduled for an upper endoscopy to rule out an ulcer, but the new GI dr's office cancelled the procedure due to snow here that morning. I have yet to reschedule. My bariatric surgeon said he thinks I may have IBS. I also have issues with my thyroid now, and am due to schedule a procedure to kill off my thyroid completely...I wonder if this is one of the reasons my weight loss has been so drastic and problematic. Please post if you find any new info!
Yes. I have had great trouble maintaining and/or gaining weight for a few months. Foods I have tolerated well until recently now make me ill, and I have no appetite. Did your gastroenterologist make any recommendations? We (my bariatric surgeon, my endocrinologist, my new GI dr, my family dr, and even my new therapist and my psychiatrist + me) are still investigating my issues...
I had the same thing for almost 2 years at first the doctors said nothing was wrong maybe acid reflex that nothing was going on. Now after seeing a bariatic surgeon and specialist they say it's an internal hernia that might be considered the Peterson's defect. I had CT'S done and nothing came up. So it's really tricky you have to get a diagnositc laproscopic proceedure to see what your issue may be. Good luck im having mine tommorrow.

any news? I've been in the hospital for a month now, very similar symptoms! Unbearable sharp burning pains in my right abdomen. I have Crohn's disease, but this pain is far different than the crohns pain! I've done every test you can think of... CT scan, MRI, ultra sounds, colonoscopy, edg, blood work. And no answers. I haven't eaten in 30 days! I'm at cedar sinai now but being transferred to UCLA tomorrow... I'm thinking about requesting an exploratory surgery. Any success stories would help a ton! Thank you so much!
I had Aetna, and with all the complications that I had, insurance paid for it in full to be removed.
I had mine removed on Dec.11th 2013. Life has been SO MUCH BETTER without that demon!!! My employer provides the worst insurance possible so I was a self-pay, but it was worth it. Since the band had never really worked for me, I find the dieting after removal isn't really any more difficult. Except now I can actually east healthy foods and that's a miracle. And actually I"m so grateful to be able to eat a salad and some grilled chicken with pain or sliming/vomiting I'm quite satisfied :)
I found this topic while doing research for my bypass reversal. It is currently scheduled for January 24th, 2014. I had the r n y just over 2 years ago. December of 2011. I was doing great until December of 2012 when my belly started hurting. I went to Langley AFB hospital as I worked there at the time. X-rays, MRIs, and a CT scan showed my abdominal area was "ugly" to quote the Dr. My small intestines had gotten tangled in a hernia and my gall bladder walls were thick and full of stones. So during the exploratory surgery, they removed the GB and said they tacked my small intestines and called it a day. Feb 8th, I was back in the ER with SEVERE abdominal pain. 3/4 of my small intestines had become tangled again and they died off. After the third surgery to remove the dead tissue, I had a heart attack. LAFB was unable to help with that so I was turfed to Portsmouth Naval Med Ctr to learn 2 days later that the MI killed off 2/3 of my colon. So that was mostly removed and an ostomy was placed. I had a PICC line and a feeding tube attached giving me 4000+ calories a day. I dropped to 133 lbs. I'm 5'11" and started at 347. After 3 blood infections and a temp of 106.4 on the last one, they chose to leave it out. The feeding tube was removed in the summer as i felt like i was going to puke every second I had the fluid going into it. I am supposed to ear 3500+ calories a day and 135g of Proteins. As many of you know, this is almost impossible. I have to eat 6+ full meals a day and am supposed to drink 2 liters of water a day. in that effort, im back down to 136 and have to be at 150 by my surg date. IDK if im going to make it, but im trying hard! I had the RNY at Ports by another Navy surgeon who has since retired. Ive worked with Dr Barker for many months and i feel that he is more than capable of the reversal and would refer me to a more qualified Dr if he felt otherwise. He is also going to reverse the colonostomy while he's In there. I am VERY excited about that as well as i am WAYYYY over this bag! I welcome any comments, concerns, etc as long as they are constructive. I will try to update afterwards and beyond with my progress. good luck to everyone as well!
Ragman!!!
Has anyone had the lap band removed? Did your insurance pay for the removal? I have Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield.
I have a whole list of symptoms including near constant reflux, sinus issues, throwing up at least 3 times a week, unable to eat HEALTHY foods at all.
Ugh. I want this demon gone!!
