Topic: Pain in middle right under rib cage but above belly button..
Just wanted to let others know if they have this what my DR told me... I had severe chest pains... Really I dont consider them chest since it is the are right below the rids - in the middle- but above the belly button. I say that is tummy area but whatever. DR runs all these blood tests on me, by the way my gallbladder was removed in 2001, so I had an H polri test run to see if it's an ulcer but that was negative so she did all kids of other blood test that all came back normal... So she thinks it is either an adheasion or something has grown together, so she tries the GI coctail that was to numb my tummy... plus... it was gross.... so I drank the nasty stuff and I felt better...not totally but at least I wasnt doubled over in pain anymore.... so she said that proves it was GERD... I said WHAT THE HELL....I'm not supposed to have that I had Hiatal hernia repair ... So she said yes I have that and to take this meds... So I am mad.. leave go get and pay for the expensive meds and I take them... which r... NEXIUM and Bella ALK and MILK OF MAG.... So I take them.... I have NO pain... So maybe I overeacted..... I feel SO much better... I also took GAS X just in case... So I have to take NEXIUM in the morning, BELLA ALK as needed and PEPCID COMPLETE at night.... For how long...who knows but as long as that awful pain stays away I will do it.... It lasted all night last night and I hated it... She also stared me on B12 shots..ouch.. but good I guess.....My sugar was low too, for someone who has trouble with sugar I dont know how to handle that.....

Owell,,, that was my prob... hope it helps someone else when they talk to their DR....

Topic: RE: Exploratory surgery on Monday - URQ pain
I can relate to your frustration April.  I am going thru similar issues which started in Feb 08.  I just had exp lap about 10 days ago because all tests were negative but pain increasing in frequency /intensity.  Mine was all left sided though.  Turns out my old stomach was not draining properly and causing all of the symptoms.  They put in a drain and all of the sx resolved however they don't know why the stomach isn't draining and no solution yet to fix it.  I have another procedure in 2 weeks to scope thru the tube to see if there is ulcer, stricture, etc in the remnant stomach.  Yours does sound like gall bladder since it's right sided.  Hope they find an answer soon for you.  It is frustrating to "know" something is wrong but to not have anything show on the tests.  You start to feel like you are crazy since they can't find anything wrong.  In terms of the lap the recovery was relatively easy....if I didn't have the drainage tube I could have gone back to work in a week.  Unfortunately the tube prevents me because it is quite painful.  Please keep in touch and let us know what they find and good luck on Monday!

A lot of the symptoms sounds like gallbladder to me.
I had mine out in 1987. Sometimes stones and such don't show up on normal testing.
Good luck and hope you get to the bottom of your problems.
Removing it was a piece of cake, by the way.

Topic: Exploratory surgery on Monday - URQ pain
Finally after two and a half months I am going to have exploratory surgery on Monday to see what's going on with my insides.  I am so glad. After being pushed around and having test after test done with "normal" results I am going to get some resolution. Well I hope so anyway.

I am thinking that there's a few things that may be going on.  Internal hernia, gallbladder disease and hiatal hernia?? These are just guesses at this point since I have lots of symptoms such as:
Constant upper right ab and back pain sometimes severe - hurts to the touch
Nausea
Constipation
Bloating / Gas
Loss of appetite
Fatigue / Dizziness
Strange tummy noises
Pressure at the base of the sternum - breast bone area

I hope to be pain free again soon.  I am ready to live my life and get back in the game.

For those of you that have had these surgeries can you give me an idea of what to expect? Any and all responses are appreciated.

Thank you,
April

Topic: RE: POUCH REMOVED????
Yikes you have been thru the ringer!  They certainly don't tell us these things when we sign on the dotted line for GBS....oh how it's going to change your life!!  But for you and me and others not necessarily in a positive way.  Thankfully we have this support group to try to keep our spirits up.  It seems like these complications take forever to diagnose/decide on treatment/etc and can lead to a downward spiral physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially.  Thanks for taking the time to share  your experience.  I am sure you may help others that are struggling too.

I definately will see a doctor. I thought it was not right to have GERD
after a RNY. Thank you

Topic: RE: Anyone with remnant stomach issues?
Thanks for the support!  I know there are people in a lot worse situations than me after reading the posts on the complication board but it is hard to not feel sorry for yourself when you are in the midst of this and waiting for answers.  It becomes a downward spiral that I am not willing to go on!!!  I am making a committment today to focus on what is right rather than wrong and be grateful that I am in the care of a fabulous surgeon who will work to try to find a solution.  Good luck with finding the cause for your pain too.  I did learn through this whole process that pain is not a normal thing after GBS and that even though the tests were all negative it was important to continue to look for a cause.  If she didn't do the exp lap I would still not know what was causing the pain.  Sorry to hear about your job.  That is a worry of mine....exploring long term disablity in case I need to go that route.  Take care and keep in touch.

Topic: RE: Anyone with remnant stomach issues?
I was treated for SIBO several times; no cultures ever taken.  One week of antibiotics and I was good for 6 weeks then symptoms returned.  Another course, good for 6 weeks.  Then no matter what they tried I could not be off the antibiotics for more than 4-5 days and the symptoms returned.  I worried about long term antibiotic use and sure enough developed thrush in my mouth and hairy black tongue from the Flagyl.   Doc still thinks the gas/bloating/flatulence is related to the SIBO and now questions if the remnant never really clears of the bad bacteria and causes the problem to return or if the remnant issues are a seperate entity. She did take cultures from the remnant while I was hospitalized and learned it is growing different stuff than my colon but is consulting with infectious disease to decide if she wants to use antibiotics orally or thru the tube.  I did find a way to make my GT a little more comfortable.  Took the drain bag off and now just aspirate the fluid off every 6 hours with the syringe that you flush the tube with to keep it patent.  Takes the strain off constant dragging/pulling the tube.  My tube is in an awful place, right under my breast between my ribs so every time I move or take a deep breath I get this shooting pain thru the area.  What other meds have they tried for you?  They want me to take Cholestryamine to bind the bile and Reglan to see if it will help the remnant empty.  The Cholestryramine isn't so bad but the Reglan made me nauseaous the last time I took it.  Course it was right at the start of this ordeal that began in early September so I can't be sure it was the Reglan.  I am reluctant to restart it just now when I am finally able to eat and drink again.  Also she has me on a celiac diet (gluten free) in case I am allergic to wheat.  I agree we should definitely keep in touch if only to support one another emotionally.  I am pretty low right now.  I am type A personality and workaholic so this has really done a number on my psyche since I don't know long term if I will be able to return to work.  Staying at home doing nothing has set me up to think of nothing else but this issue and I need to find a way to redirect my energices and remain positive.

That doesn't sound normal, you should see your doctor.  Did you check your BP and blood sugar when it happened, has it happened a lot, are you getting enough protein? Sorry, I;m a nurse, I can't help it

Topic: POUCH REMOVED????
I had to have my pouch removed (check out my profile for the story), and I was wondering if anyone else has had this and how they are doing without it? Thanks!
