Topic: RE: Signs of Gallbladder issues & medications
Hi. Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. I hope things go well for her. As far as the symptoms of Gall Bladder disease about 90% of gallstones provoke no symptoms at all. Which is what happened to me. The primary sympton is typically steady pain in the upper right abdomen near the rib cage, which can be severe and radiate to the back. Nausea or vomiting may occur as well. Large fatty meals can precipitate the pain, but usually occurs several hours after eating and often will wake you up in the night.

I ended up having a complicated open cholecystectomy. Was in surgery for 8 hours, 3 blood transfusions and 6 days in ICU. It's important to note that my RNY did not cause the complications of my surgery. It was just a freak thing that happened. Just make sure you listen to your body and how your feeling. I did not have any symptons of gallbladder disease. Was not on any preventive meds. I wish now that they would have taken my gallgladder out during the RNY.

Topic: Addison's disease?
Hello all,
I haven't been on in a while. I just got diagnosed with Addison's disease. I was wondering if anyone else has this. I am almost a year out from surgery. I was told their is no way to tell if it was do to the doctor clamping off an artery and leaving the clamp on to long intern killing the supply to the adrenal glands, or if it was just a fluke thing that happened. Over the last six months my life has been miserable.
I have had low blood sugars been diagnosed with hypoglycemia, about 30 blackouts, migraines, so tired I can't drag myself out of bed. I can sleep and feel like I never slept, I had a seizure the other night, keep losing weight, appetite what so ever. I have to force myself to eat, weak muscles, low blood pressure, and the list goes on. Just standing up my heart rate raises to 150 bpm without doing anything. My blood pressure is always at 72/65.
After having the seizure I couldn't go to sleep even though I was tired. I was scared what if i don't wake up again. I have two little boys and I couldn't put them through that. I saw the doctor and finally after six months they found something. I have been told my pancreas needs removed, I have heart problems. Nope it's none of those things.
The doctor started me on medicine. I was just wondering if anyone else has this and how has your life been since you have been diagnosed. The doctor said as soon as the medicine kicks in I should start to feel normal and all my symptoms will go back to normal. Also that JFK had this. Only 1 in 100000 people get it.
I have just been really depressed. I am happy they found something finally but scared because I only know what I have read, and don't know anyone with this to ask questions. If anyone has it please respond. Thanks

My sister in law was just admitted to ER with gallbladder issues. She is 15 months out of RNY. Got me thinking, I dont even know what the signs and symptoms are. I am almost 6 months out RNY. Also, how many of you are on gallbladder meds as a preventative measure and what are they prescribing.  Thinking I may want to talk to my PCP about preventative meds.

That is the tough part about this...the waiting and not knowing what if anything will be done to fix us.  I am grateful I was able to lose weight and be thin for the first time since I was a teenager but I am not so sure if I knew this would go along with it that I would have made the same decision.  I am a planner and a doer so to sit around and wait is not in my basic makeup.  The days seem endless without anything to occupy my time except this damn situation.  I have 10 more days till the scope and am hoping she finds a solution when she goes in then.

Good luck on the exploratory surgery and hope you are feeling better after. Hopefully it will end your issues without much pain for you. How did you get your surgeon to finally decide to do the exploratory surgery. My doctor doesnt seem to think I need however, I have the same issues you have, plus stomach pains/aches every day however my gi doc has referred me to pain management where they will be doing a nerve block. Good luck and keep us posted to your outcome.

I had an internal hernia which caused symptoms similar to yours. I ended up with a comlete small bowel obstruction from an internal hernia, 12 days after an exploratory procerdure where the doc had repaired one internal hernia. With the bowel obstruction, I had the same pain as before the exp surgery, only much more intense with vomiting starting almost immediately after the pain had begun. Before, I would get a little nausea, but no vomiting. I am a nurse and thought the pain seemed like classic gall bladder pain, but had a negative sonogram and HIDA scan. The pain changed a few hrs after getting to the ER and started moving across my upper abdomen and then down to my lower abdomen. After about 14 hrs of being in pain and getting Fentanyl and Zofran(for nausea) a CT finally showed I had an obstruction and I went to surgery shortly after that.
The abdomen and its pains can be very challenging to diagnose....good luck with your surgery and I hope it cures your problems!

Hi Julie...just checking in to see how you made out at the doctors' this week.  Any plan to improve your situation?  I am still in a holding pattern till she scopes the tube in 2 weeks.  I hope she has some answers for me then because the tube is coming out right after that procedure regardless.  I can't stand to have it in longer than that.  I would have taken it out already but she educated me that I must wait for the tract to heal because if I take it out before then all of the bile will drain into my abdomen and cause peritonitis.  Hope you had a positive visit with the doc.  I know you have been suffering longer than I have with this issue.
