Topic: RE: Diahrrea after Corrective Surgery
Have stool samples been sent to culture for C-Difficile?
This bacteria can be picked up in the hospital. It takes weeks to get over, but needs to be checked for with anyone with persistant diarrhea after a hospitalization as it can be dangerous. If he hasn't been checked for it, call your doc and ask about it, those of us in healthcare call it C-diff for short. Janet

Topic: Diahrrea after Corrective Surgery
On Oct 8th my husband had exploratory surgery from complications during his first surgery on Sept. 24. They redid his gastric bypass but since then he has had problems with yellow smelly diahrrea daily (even on IVs). Especially at night in bed. He doesn't know it's happening. We have a cleaning system down but it's still very hard to have clean our bed.
He's on liquids till the weekend. They have him on BellaDonna for it but it doesn't help. He's also had mobility problems since the surgery (severe adeama) and mobility is an issue.
Love to hear any similar cases & advice.

Topic: RE: Exploratory surgery on Monday - URQ pain
Glad to hear you found a solution to your pain! Hopefully you are healed and back to normal. I am still struggling with my issues. Still out of work going on 9 weeks now. While I had the drain in the sx were resolved. The drain is now out and I am back to square one. The pain has also shifted now to the right side, under my breastbone and mid back on the right. Doc is checking out gall bladder to see if that is the culprit.

I'm glad that you're getting it done. Those of us who have lived the life of the obese have had to endure enough. Hopefully things will work out this time. I know with the lap band there is usually not very many complications and those are mostly user error. I know that your situation is different and I'll keep you in my prayers. Keep me posted on how you're doing.

Topic: RE: Help Reversal
I have decided I am going to do the reversal (or revision not sure what to call it since I would go to a lap band to make sure I cannot eat too much). As far as weight, thankfully I am at goal (actually under, hence the feeding tube) and so I may have to gain a little but at least the weight loss time is not there. I am looking at having it done in Jan 2010. We are waiting cause I cannot have it during the summer (okay well I could but with that much time off of work and such, I think winter is best) and it will be before I start nurisng school and will give me time to put money away. I want to feel better, I just worry that I may not or god forbid I have a complication from this surgery. Thanks for the reply

I am truly sorry to hear you're having all of these problems. I would get the reversal for that reason alone if it were me. You did get the surgery to enhance your quality of life and that just isn't happening.
I have had the lap band since Dec. 12, 2007. I couldn't be happier with it. I know, I know, lots of people say that. I happy to confirm I really mean it. It's not the fastest way to loose weight but I have been blessed with a trouble free journey and have been at goal for about 3 months now. The big thing that you would have to do is be patient as they need to get you to the right fill level. Not knowing how your stomach is going to react to the surgery and during the time you are waiting, you may have to either count calories or accept you may gain a little weight until you reach the right fill level.
As for the throwing up...not only may you end up with no esophagus BUT you could end up with esophagial cancer. This is a cancer that my dad died of and by the time you get symptoms it's too late. One of the major causes of this cancer is untreated GERD/heartburn. I remember him drinking Maylox like it was water. Of course, at the time we didn't have the knowledge we learned as we lost him. Throwing up is just another way for the stomach acid to get into the esphagus and that stomach acid is what causes the problem.
So, I have to ask you, is not reversing this surgery worth your life? If there is a chance that you can get better and possibly keep the weight off, wouldn't it be worth doing it? For me the answer would be a resounding YES but I also know we must each travel our own journeys. Good luck and may God be with you.

I hope by now you have gone to the doctor! My daughter had her surgery in July. In September she started having the same (plus other) symtoms as you. they got progressively worse - her doctor was not helpful. we wound up at NY Presbytarien hospital where she finally got the help she needed. Thanks to Dr. Pomp and the neurological team there.
She was suffering from severe vit. deficiencies!
If you haven't done so already, get a CBC from your primary.
Topic: RE: Anyone with remnant stomach issues?
Unfortunately I can't take Vicoden or the Ultram. The vicoden gives me severe cramping/abdominal pain due to the Codeine and the Ultram I had a severe reaction too. So I just try to ride it out and hope it passes and if I feel like I am headed to the ER I will take a Dilaudid to see if I can get it to pass. If the Dilaudid doesn't do it then I know I need the ER. It really is a ***** to not have a definitive answer. I don't want to be in the ER multiple times, I don't want to to be stuck at home in the house never knowing what is going to trigger the nausea or when the next bout of severe pain is going to hit and your right I don't want another surgery. But I do want a solution to this so I can get back to living a more normal life. I had the gastric bypass surgery so I could prolong my life and I thought I knew the risk factors but I never anticipated that I would end up like this with chronic complication with no solution.

I hope the scan provides an answer for you too. It would be great if it were just your gall bladder. Not that you want a surgery, but gall bladder surgery is pretty simple these days.
I know all about that 'double you over' pain. Do you have pain meds. for it? I have ES vicodin for when mine is bad, but most of the time I take Ultram. Ultram is good for inflammation as well as pain. It works for me without making me too doped up.
