Alannah,
Ok, I just posted (see below) this today on the IL forum, and then I started searching for other forums for people who have had complications with the surgery. I really didn't think there was anyone else out there because between my original surgeon and the new surgeon, I have only heard how rare these problems are, and no one around me has these problems either. I'm sorry that you are suffering and I do feel your pain. I'm not sure what has happened with you since this post, but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone, and I am glad that I am not alone...read my post below and feel free to contact me if you want.

Hi everyone,
I don't post too often, but I do read a lot of your posts and sometimes chime in if I feel I can help. I had RNY on 10/30/07, and I was fine until about Feb/Mar 2008, and then the problems started, lots of stenosis (I have lost track of how many EGD's I have had, maybe 8-10 in 2008), I have had 3 more surgeries since my original surgery, the last one in November by Dr. Alverdy to do an exploratory with possible reversal of gastric bypass, which they ended up having to do. I don't want to scare people who are thinking about the surgery, believe it or not, I do not have any regrets and I would do it all over again, and keep in mind that I am the exception, not the rule for complications. I guess my anatomy just does not work with this surgery, it made me very sick, several trips to ER/admissions to the hospital, I think the scariest was the malnutrition (from not being able to eat due to symptoms) and having to get a central line to get IV nutrition at home, it has been a long road...now I am faced with a whole set of problems/emotions I have never had in my whole life...not being able to eat enough, trying not to lose anymore weight (that's a mind melter there), and having people tell you that you are too thin and telling you to eat more. I want to eat more, I am just still recovering from the last surgery, and I am still having some intestinal complications from that. I have a wonderful support group, really great friends there, but I mostly go to support others, I don't talk about my issues because I don't want to scare people, and there isn't anyone there with these problems, I almost feel like it would be offensive for me to talk about how I need to gain weight and eat more calories! I just didn't know if there was anyone else out there with any of these issues. Thanks for listening :)

Have you looked into the DS. There are lots of revisions from lapbands and RNY and may be worth your effort to research that surgery. Sorry you are having so many problems and hope they resolve.

Topic: lap band complications
Hello,
I have had the lap band for almost five years. Have had wonderful results. Although as of the last two weeks (since thanksgiving night) i have had uncontrollable heartburn 24/7, a tightening in my chest back through to the middle of my back, my left shoulder kills me, my left side has pain like someone is stabbing me, and i burp more in one day than i ever have in my entire life. The heartburn is so bad that i have had less than 3 hours of sleep a night since. Its like something is on fire when i swallow anything so i have been sticking with dry toast or crackers and water, but even that hurts. I have an appointment with my doc on monday, he just so happens to be out of town right now. I talked to his nurse yesterday and she seemed very concerned. Told me to go directly to the Emergency Room if problems get any worse, i just can't imagine they could get worse.
Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know anything about band erosion or slippage?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Topic: RE: Gastric Remnant Issue?
I have had a ton of problems with my remnant stomach. I have had two surgeries this year on account of it. Also had a g-tube in for 9 months to drain out excess bile.
I think it is a bit better now although I still have pain every time I eat and I take Ultram daily for the pain.
I have never heard of a remnant bursting, that sounds very serious.
There are a couple of us that have had remnant stomach issues. I wouldn't let it go if you are experiencing trouble, get checked out.

This post is so timely. I have been passing out (fainting, falling - in other words hurting myself.....) since 10/31 - I was hospitalized because it happened in the pre-op room as I was translating for my dad who was about to have wrist surgery (ironically - he's 83 and went home same day) I spent 4 days in the hospital suffering from tachycardic episodes.
BP - in the 70/50
Heart rate in high 40s low 50's
Felt like dumping - but the kicker is it wasn't happening after eating.
I'm seeing an endrocronologist thursday because my nuerologist found that I had an abnormal autonomic test result and feels that I am suffering from Pots (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
My surgeon suggested seeing the endo - and looking into nesibioblastosis....as a possibility. In the meantime, I'm not working out on disability because I'm passing out several times a day.

Yes, the Dr. suspects that my pancreas was putting out to much insulin. He said it is a result of losing a large amount of weight and your pancreas continuing to pump out the same amount of insulin as before.
My Dr. has me test when I have symptoms.

Reactive hypo for the most part, when I would take blood sugars they would be in the 30's
I also have dumping symptoms as well. Heart beating fast, faint, sweats, etc.
