I wish you the best. My daughter has lived in agony for 23 months. Nobody can find a problem. She's had so many scopes and CAT scans, etc., she glows in a dark room. She's been told she's constipated, she's a drug addict, she's pregnant, and the old favorite, it's in her head. Nobody can find the problem. A new doctor has said Candy Cane, but we doubt she'll get the operation. During the last two years and dozens of doctors, nobody seems to want to stick with it and, most importantly, solve it. And forget having the pain treated. My daughter is starving. She gets so hungry, she eats, then has hours of "10" pain before it subsides. At one point she weighed 84 pounds. She can't pass a mirror anymore, because she "can't see" herself anymore, and the image is too much (or little) to take. Her weight soared to 97 lbs. when one brave doctor treated the pain. But at three months, she got scared so quit prescribing. My daughter hates taking pain medicine. She'd rather be cured any day of the week. But they can't seem to do that, and now that she can't eat any longer, she's just lingering. She was five years post-op when the problem started. Yours was caught much earlier, so maybe they'll get it under control quickly. My daughter wishes she never ever had the surgery. Her life has turned to H---. Sure she wears a 1 or 3, but she'd rather wear a 28 and not be in pain. You'd be surprised how quickly you lose a positive attitude when you've endured agony for two years. Just in case things don't go as quickly as you'd like, get a good support group. And keep that sunshine outlook!
Hi,
My sister recently had gastric bypass this past August 2013, she had many complications and through much consultation, she and her doctor decided to do a reversal in February. Hoping severe nausea and vomiting would go away. She has had many scopes to widen her stomach and lots of scar tissue that made things more complicated. She is still having severe complications with the reversal (ongoing vomiting, nausea). She is unable to keep anything down and it's very scary. She has has many hospital stays and all they do is give her strong medications that is just a short term solution making her want the meds. She is on administrative leave and her health/body is not getting any better. Her doctor has done all the testing stating that everything came back clear basically washing his hands of this leaving my sister in horrible state. I'm at a loss to understand her complications and wanting to see if anyone who had this reversal experienced these side effects and did it get better. It's so sad and I believe her case may be rare. She's depressed and her health is not good at all as she is continually losing weight (below what she should) and is not getting any nutrients. I'm desperate to find out what resources and support she needs. Can anyone advise me as to what I can do to help?
Take care

After 4 months of complications you'd think I'd know there was a complications forum :|
I just wanted to post that I understand how hard it is when things go wrong. I can't offer any insights. I had a sleeve and apparently I will get better one day but if you need to talk feel free to send me a message. I can't imagine what it's like to not be able to find a doctor that is confident they can help you.
God bless, Michelle

Hi Jennifer,
I am having the sleeve done on June 2nd-so I would be able to give you updates if needed. I know 2 people that have had the bypass, and 1 person with band, and one with sleeve. I never wanted the bypass, so my decision was between band and sleeve. Overall, I didn't want some foreign object in my body. The guy I know who had the lapband lost a great amt of weight, and he looks great..but he did have complications later (on a flight one time they had to do an emergency stop- somehow the band slipped- probably due to altitude...not sure if this is common?)
Just look into pro's and cons of each. The sleeve is newer, which can be scary- but I wasnt interested in going back to tighten and loosen the band
My main issue was a 12 hour vomiting session that would not stop. That was in 2010, I was banded in 2007. I had 1cc removed and that stopped the nightmare but I haven't been back. I am preparing now to get it removed and have a different WLS. The band has been a whole new experience that I don't want...vomiting as if I were bulimic.
Look also on the lap band board, you will find comments there.
It would probably be good to make a habit of cutting your pills into halves or quarters. The lap band is not the same as DS but both leave a pouch whick is not much room. As a bandster, we also do not swallow anything larger than a pencil eraser. I crush my pills or take chewables.
So sorry you had to find out the hard way. To remedy....relax, SIP not swallow some warm beverage slowly to help it dissolve and go down. Water will do the same but might take longer to make it dissolve.
