Topic: Anyone with a Gastric Fistula?
So I just found out for sure that I have a gastric fistula which has prevented me from ever getting to goal and to gain some weight back! I have done some research on it, but not a lot out there. Has anyone had one after sometime. I am four years out from my surgery and just want to know what to expect from the repair. I know my surgeon will tell me but I want to hear first hand from someone like me... if there is one. Did they do a revision or just repair the fistula? Thanks in advance for any help!!

Topic: RE: Chronic Fatigue or Fibromyalgia AFTER WLS
I too am 4 1/2 years post-op. About 4 months ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. I had originally lost 100 pounds but slowly gained back 55. Now that I want to get back on track with weight loss, I'm finding it very difficult. What I once could do physically, I cannot do now. My doctor put me on Cymbalta, which is supposed to help with depression and pain, but it didn't work for me. Now I take 1500 mg of Tylenol as needed and prescription muscle relaxers as needed (they just make me more tired). I suggest going through a series of blood tests. They had to rule out Epstein Barr virus (mono), Lupus, and did a sed rate as well as a complete blood panel. After all tests were normal, my pcp diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. She even authorized a temporary disabled person parking pass for me. Good luck with your journey. It truly is a difficult one with pain and fatigue.

Topic: RE: XPOST: Gall Bladder Surgery Last Monday and in BIG Pain
Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear about your pain. I also had my gall bladder out in November. Everyone tole be it would be like I was on "vacation" after a few days. After 1O days I was still taking Percocets around the clock.  I had some abnormal labs (LFT'S)  so my doctor sent me for testing abdominal ct, and a hida-scan. All test were negative. It took me 3 and a half weeks to stop feeling the pain. It was then that I realized how bad I really felt

I am happy to say that I feel great now, so don't give up hang in there it does get better.

If you are taking that much pain medications
and haven't had a bowel movement you may be constipated or impacted, you need to call your doctor and let him know, that may be the cause of your pain. I  was also constipated and was taking 2-3 colace daily which didn't really help. Now I take BENIFIBER 2 tsp 3 times a day and  I go every day with out difficulty. Make sure you ask your doctor before trying anything.

I hope this helps you and that you feel better real soon. I thought I was the only one who experienced such pain after a Lap-choli and I have heard from  many many people who have had the same experience.

Topic: RE: pain in upper abdomen?? plz help!

Did you have your Gallbladder removed?  I have not had my surgery yet but i had that feeling after i had my son and needed my gallbladder removed.  I would always have pain after i ate.  I hope it is your gallbladder and nothing more serious.  If you need your gallbladder removed the surgery is a easy one.  Hope all goes well.

I have to agree that GB removal for me was more painful then the wls.
Hope you are feeling better.

Topic: pain in upper abdomen?? plz help!
I am a little over 13 weeks out and had RNY gastric bypass.  Everything has been going perfect until about 3 days ago when i started experiencing this strange uncomfortableness in my upper abodomen between my brest bone and belly button.  Its gotten worse over the last few days so I called my surgeon and he will be doing a cat scan on my stomach tommorrow to see what is going on.  Has anyone ever experiienced this pain after surgery or does anyone have any ideas what this could be??  Its feels like a knot in my stomach and I also feel super bloated there.  I have not gotten sick and I am able to keep foods and liquids down, but I have noticed the pain flares back up after I eat.  Any suggestions would be most helpful.  Starting to worry.... Thanks!

I feel for you.  I had my GB surgery in a middle of November and it felt like the pain was worse than with RNY.  It lasted only a few days.  But still.
The gas pain was horrible.  I took less pain pills after RNY than after the GB.  be patient, this will pass too.
As for BM - I di enema on the second day, and the third, and ... untill I did not need it anymore. Antherwise I would have been in real trouble.

Trying to go. when you in pain... please....

Walking helped me a lot and massage.  Shoulders massage was what i got nad it help relief the pain.

((hugs))) I know you need that now more than ever...

If nothing else helps - take M of M.  for BM

Lisa,
I just had my GB out almost a week ago, and I was also in some big time pain, and I also like to think of myself as a tough cookie :)  I also had adhesions removed that were irritating my intestines.  I think most of the pain is from the trapped air from the surgery (lap surgery right?, not open?).  I think that pain can be underestimated, and then the constipation on top of it.  I don't know if they sent you home with Colace or any other stool softener (sorry TMI), but that will help.  Here is some more TMI, but it may give you hope LOL  I had not gone to the bathroom since 12/28, and I just went for the first time a couple days ago and that really was when the pain started to ease up a bit.  I hope this helps, and remember that the pain medicine, although it helps with pain, it is in itself constipating, so it can make the battle worse before it gets better. Take care and feel better soon!

Topic: RE: Can Anyone Help This PAIN Go Away ???
Just saw your post -

I just had the same problem you described with pain around the belly button and to the left and it turned out to be adhesions.  They did an exploratory and also removed the Gall Bladder at the same time.  I just posted about pain.  The surgery so far has not resolved the pain yet and recovery seems to be taking a bit longer but I can only guess that when they were "exploring" they were banging around and that can't feel so good!

Anyway, the adhesions did not show up on my CT scan but the mesentary and bowel were a bit inflamed and that led them to question what was up, either adhesions or hernia.

As your doc to review your scan for inflammation of bowel loops or mesentary.  He may see something that can lead you in the right direction.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
