Topic: RE: Anyone with remnant stomach issues?
Hi guys I was on the site looking for answers for my sister her surgery date was 031109, mine 120108, she has the same problem dr' hasn't said much except that it is rare happens only rarely. On another site she found that it happens more with people that have high blood pressure and/or diabetes...she was diagnosed with both. I was wondering how each of you were doing with this now. You guys just all of a sudden stopped posting hopefully that means you are better.
Topic: RE: Signs of Gallbladder issues & medications
Hi Joyce,
Like you, I had a complicated open cholecystectomy. I ended up having a blocked and very dilated common bile duct. I had a completely full gall bladder, full of stones. Of which, I didn't have any going into the RNY on my surgery date, 1-2-01. I didnt have any symptoms other than mid-back and shoulder blade pain, and bloated belly, frequent small stools and an extreme amt of very stinky gas:!! I am having alot more symptoms now. I feel as though I am dying. I am going to update my profile. I hope someone can give me an idea of where to go next. If something doesnt give, I feel as though my days are numbered.

Still a mystery, I have my theories, but I bought Dr. Oz's new book; YOU: The Smart Patient, and I wasn't really sure if I was going to learn anything from it, but here is the major thing that I did learn, that I know I have been guilty of, in his book he talks about getting 2nd/3rd opinions, and cautioned that you need to make sure that when you see the new doc, that other than being informative about your history, DO NOT start giving them ideas as to what YOU think is wrong, or what other docs have thought was wrong, it can influence what they come up with or distract them from their own thoughts. We'll see, waiting for Mayo Clinic to comb through my giant record and call me, I will add you as a friend and keep you posted, thanks!
Topic: RE: Unexplained Pain on Left Side
Kathryn,
I am 6 years post -op and was fine up until 2 years ago. I woke up with pain on my left side, went to the doctor thinking I had the flu, passed out in his office, they took me to the hospital via 911 and had a Cat Scan. The Cat scan showed I had a tumor. I was operated on that night and at that time, they could only get 80% of it without taking some of my intestine.
I got a staph infect from the OR and was in the hospital for 4 weeks on IV antibiotics. After that...I finally went home and while I was recovering, I noticed a huge hernia. 5 months later the herein was fixed and they removed the rest of the tumor.
6 months later...I got another hernia and had that repaired a year ago in July, they did take 12" of my intestine and I did go to a different doctor. While recovering I started pooping and throwing up blood. Was back in the ER and admitted to ICU with a hemoglobin of 6. Had all the tests and found I had a ulcer that busted open and that's why I was bleeding.
NOW...I have 2 more hernias and they will be repaired in July. Is all this related to my RYN from 2003? some doctors say yes and some say no.
I have been reading alot about Weight Loss patients having complications years out and I don't like it.

Topic: RE: Levaquin, ab cramping, and diarehia
Hi, I had the same exact thing. Had diarreha constantly for 6 weeks. Almost died. was in and out of hospital due to dehydradation. It was not C-diff either. The antibiotics stripped my system of good bacteria. Also did not have IBS either. Had a colonscopy. Don't know why or how but it went away after 6 months. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry that you've had such a negative response with the pain management doctor!!! It reminds me of the male doctor who says having a baby doesn't hurt! How the heck would they know unless they've experienced it???
Have you found out why your having the pain yet?

Topic: RE: Unexplained Pain on Left Side
I have had the same pain on and off since October 2007. I have had a CT, CTA, x-ray, bone scan, and colonoscopy with no results beside they found a kidney stone. Yea! My doctor is at a lost and continues to stay it is a pulled muscle that never healed. I don't think it is a pulled muscle. My gastric bypass surgery was 03/23/2009 and my surgeon looked at my spleen when he did my surgery, and found nothing. I push thru the pain a lot but sometimes I can't and have to rest.
I'm probably switching my regular doctor after surgery and maybe a new doctor will have some ideas
. I'm think ing of requesting a upper GI next. Keep us posted if you find out anything and I will too.
My pain started before my gastric bypass surgery. So I know it is not related in my case. All I know is I can not continue to live with this pain. I have to find out the problem.

Vanessa,
We have spoken before, and I really appreciate everything you had to say, and I will look into it. I am really gunshy about even meeting with another pain doctor. I just feel like I coast from week to week somehow. I am back at work, which has been great for me mentally, not sure how it will be physically. I am afraid to eat at work because of the possible repercussions, yet I don't want to lose anymore weight. I did request an appt at the Mayo Clinic, we will see if that works out. I am that desperate at this point. I often steal/borrow your quote about medicine being "practiced", I love it and it is so true. I don't knock the great doctors I DO have, but there are some that make me wonder, geeez! I hope you are doing well these days, keep me posted. I think I sent you a friend request, I'll have to make sure you are on my list :)
