Thanks Lisa; I have had a rough road at the start of this so lots of different worries but what you say makes sense. I do need to watch snacking. Since I don't eat much at a meal I tent to treat myself to what ever I like when I want it and I know that is dangerous territory. I need to start planning meals better. Thanks for making me think. Topic: Need Help!!! Abdominal Pain!!
Hi All,
I need some help quick!  I have seen countless Dr's  for this, and I have been hospitalized for 3 days, and they found nothing.  From reading this forum I think  you all have a better grip of what I'm going through.  I had RNY Lap surgery 6 years ago.  For the last yr and a half, I have been having upper right abdominal pain.  They have ran all the blood tests, ultra sounds, x-rays, ct scans with and without contrast, and lapriscopic surgery.  Here is what they found.  I have low vitiamin D, and vitiamin B12.  I have a abnormal lymph in my heart sack, but was sent to a Pulminary Dr, because they thought it was in my lung. NOT!!  At least the Lung Dr knew differently.  He's been monitaring it, and it hasn't grown, and the are no others in the area.  This lymph node is  the size of a nickel.  Had an upper GI, and that looked fine.  Went back to my bypass surgoen,  he did an ultra sound of my gailbladder, and he did a laperoscapy.  My gailbladder was fine, and he was no hernia or twistings.  While he said if it returned, he would take out my gailbladder.  I'm not to thrilled with having parts of me just taken out for no reason.  The good news about this is that it subsided for 6? months, but not it's back with vengences.  I don't know what to do, and there are new symptoms.  My large intestants is full, how that could happen I don't know, I have always had a diareia problem.  So fiber to the rescue.  Trust me I'm clean. Didn't  help!!  I also have gas, gurgling in what seems to feel like my old stomach, and smal intestinal area, so this has lead to worse than normal flatulans.  I also have been having my right leg swell up from knee to my ankle when I stand on it to long.
I'm sorry for such a  long posting, but I just don't know what to do.  I have the Dr's stumped, and I have a follow-up Thur. May 7th.  I'm thinking an internal hernia, or auto immune disease?  But any ideas, help, suggestions (short of shotting myself) would be so appreciated?  I REPEAT NO IDEA IS STUPID, AND EVEN A SUGGESTION ON HOW TO GET RID OF THIS PAIN!!!!!  I've gone so far with this bloating feeling, that I had my 2 yr old nephew jump on my belly.  It actual kind worked.  If  someone would of told me about all these problems that I've had from this surgery 6 yrs ago, I never would of had it done.  Trust me when one I tell you this is just one more thing, in a long line of problems I've had from this surgery.
Thanks for reading, and any help you can give me.

Topic: RE: NESIDIOBLASTOSIS hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia?RYGB
I also was recently diagnosed by my endocrinologist with nesidioblastosis.  It started happening a few years post-op but my blood sugar starting dropping severely and often after a gastric illness I had in January (I am five years post-op in April 09).  Blood sugars in the 20's and 30's are not uncommon for me now.  The nurse and physicians assistant at my surgeon's office told me it was just my diet and that I should not eat any carbs without balancing it with a protein.  Not really seeing this as a great answer, I did see an endocrinologist in Minneapolis who diagnosed the nesidioblastosis and started me on a med to block the digestion of carbs.  I've been on the med for less than a week and am not up to a full dose yet but I am seeing a difference between when I take the med and when I don't.
Moral of the story, have they tried Acarbose (generic) or  Precose (brand name) meds with you?
 Take care,
Emily

Topic: Nausea 24/7; 6 months post-op
I am constantly nauseous and I am really struggling with calories/protein.

My average calories for the past 30-days (I track on daily plate) was 350 cals/day.

My surgeon's office saw me yesterday for my 6 months post-op visit and said that if I can't get my calories up within a month, they will scope me.  They want me at 500 calories/day.

If nothing shows with the endoscopy, I think they will say this is all in my head.

Eating is a chore and I literally force-feed myself.  Even drinking is a chore these days.

I feel miserable.

Topic: bladder and kidney infection
I have both right now.  I am one month post op lap RNY. I did a search for "kidney infection" on this site and came up with a myriad of posts in people's blogs and different sections of the board.  Seems like this is a pretty common issue after WLS surgery.

Be sure to get all your water/fluids in people!

I haven't had your exact problems but, trust me, worrying about loss of appetite or losing too much too fast in those eary days is needless worry. Our bodies have a way of "leveling out" and getting obssessed with "not getting enough calories" can set us up for regain simply by getting us into bad habits long after the need to worry is there. At least it can for someone like me who's root problem is compulsive overeating. Any habit I gpt into in those early days to slow/stop the weight loss stayed with me long after there was any concern about weight loss. I had a friend who lost weight rapidly and was told by her doc that she needed to start eating more because she was losing too fast. Unfortunately, she took his advice and began eating between meals. Now she is approximately 40 pounds overweight and can't seem to break the habit of those in between meal snacks - dangerous territory for someone like me! As a pretty well-versed post-op patient (and a nurse, to boot), my main concern was nutritional like yours. I don't know how much you weigh but a target protein intake is a gram for each pound you weigh (weigh 120, drink 120 grams) and, of course, stay on top of taking your muli-vites, calcium citrate, vite B12, and any other supplements you think you may need (I take a Vite B complex, Vite A&D, Magnesium, Potassium and Biotin as well as iron infusions). But. as far as the weight loss and lack of appetite, I'd drop the worry and enjoy the repreive while it lasts! Stay encouranged. peace, lisa

HI Kat..

Glad to see you posting again.. i am sorry you went through such a rough time.

I think as you get out a bit farther you will find your appetite gets better.  Make sure you keep up the protein and the fluids.

Keep us informed

Topic: 4 months post-op. Will I ever have an appetite again?
I had major complications with my VSG surgery and was in the hospital for a month on and off, Had a feeding tube put in and now can eat some foods but I thought by now I would want more food? I have lost 65lb and worry about getting enough nutrition. I've been drinking 2 Icopure a day that have 40grams of protein but that and some cereal daily is all I really want. Should I worry yet? Anyone else have this problem?

April:

I was looking at discussions about adhesions, when I read your symptoms here... it's been months since you posted this...so forgive me for today's date...

What did the surgery find?

I ask this because, I am 5 months post-ERNY...having developed pain about 3 months ago in the R waistline area, where some surger-izing was done in Nov.  My symptoms are similar to yours:
SEVERE upper abd bloating
SEVERE gas
Loss of appetite
Fatigue/Dizziness
Pressure in the back...behind where the waistline pain is, radiating up into the R back

I am going for a endoscopy tomorrow and a colonoscopy on Fri.

Particularly important to my doc (not my gastric bypass doc) is that I have developed a chronic anemia...meaning NOT iron deficient...  he feels there is a bleed somewhere which has been going on for several months...because my blood counts are VERY low...my red blood count is 1/2 what it should be.

Anyhow... any insight into what you have been diagnosed with...may be helpful...
