Julie,
Yes it is related to your enlarged opening (stoma).  You are experiencing all the effects of dumping syndrome as well as the hypoglycemia.  Make sure you eat high protein and low GI fruits and vegtables.  Get into see a Endocrinologist or a surgeon who knows about revisions.  I had a revision to and ERNY and it seems to have taken care of my problem, but there is no guarantees to any treatment.  There are medications to help with the blood sugars.   A lapband over your RNY may help as well, you need a Dr. who knows how to treat these issues.  Find another  surgeon if you have too.

Topic: 7 years out open RNY

Hi all,

I am new to the message board but wanted to know if anyone that is 7 years out from there RNY has experienced abdominal pain and have difficulty eating anything it takes for ever to eat I have to stop and let my stomach settle before I can eat any more I feel like I am going to toss what I just ate  and when I am really really hungery I get a abdomial pain all across my stomach area and back.

The doctors have checked me for gall bladder issues and liver issues nothing.  The next step is an open exploritory surgery and the doctor suggested that when they are in there they could do a revision.

I have only lost like 50 pounds from my first surgery nothing much and am still considered in the morid obese range.

Would like to know if any one that has Traditional Anthem insurance has had any luck getting a revision covered.  And if anyone else has had these kind of issues and what you had luck with.

Thanks
tbeary

Deanne

Could you please tell me more about what you've gone through? I'm 11 months post op RNY and I seem to have very rapidly developed reactive hypoglycemia. My numbers are going down to the 40s, and it makes me very worried because I have a 4 year old, and I'm terrified I'll pass out when I'm alone with her.

You talked about an enlarged stoma. What does that mean? Does that mean your pouch has been stretched too much? I had several complications early on and they kept thinking it was strictures, it was not, and they kept stretching my opening. So it's larger than it's supposed to be. Could this be related to the hypoglycemia?

I'm really interested in finding out more about your experience.

I have the same hernia you do...and I found using a waistnipper found at jcpenney.com does the trick. I just wear it higher up than intended. It's exactly as you describe with boning and a hook-and-eye closure down the front.

Are you planning on having hernia surgery. I'm only 6 weeks post-op for lap-band surgery and my doctor wants me to lose weight before he fixes mine. In the meantime I look like I'm about 7 months pregnant. I'm sure the people at work wonder if that "baby" is every going to come...lol

Topic: Hypoglycemia/Low blood sugars-sorry Long
I am 1 year, and five months out from RNY Gastric Bypass, and have been experiencing hypoglycemia for about 3 months now. I am religious about checking my blood sugar,a and so I know that my symptoms(confusion, irritability, pounding heart, sweating, shakiness) Usually appear when my blood sugars drop into the 60's. In fact I have gotten good at identifying the symptoms, and can sometimes catch them when My sugars are just in the low 70's. However this past week I have had a couple of really scary episodes. A couple of times my sugars dropped into the 50's (55 and 58) before this they have never been below 64. One of these episodes especially concerned me because it took massive amount of carbs before my blood sugars rose to normal.  Then two nights ago I ate  carb loaded snack (I emphasis here that it was loaded with carbs, not sugar) and then went to bed. When I woke up I had the worst symptoms I have ever experienced. I almost blacked out twice trying to get to the kitchen. My BS was 45. I was barely able to grab something to eat (in fact tried to drink some juice  but couldn't hold it). I did down some yogurt,a and then collapsed into bed,a and promptly fell asleep.

At this point I am very concerned. I have not yet been to a doctor about this, as I didn't think they could do anything but prescribe dietary changes. I have been making changes to my diet myself. No grain products, no dairy products. basically just proteins, veggies, and Low GI fruits. Also started to eat six meals per day.

I am just wondering from those who have experienced this..

Do you think I need to see a doctor regarding this, or are they going to just tell me to make dietary changes?

In your experience did your episodes become worse as time went on?

Have you ever not had symptoms go away form eating something?
And any other info you can give me would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Ive read many cases like yours.  And people usually don't like complaining or disclosing their problems.  It is said that from each letter of complaint a company receives in reality there are 100 dissatisfied customers.

You are a living example of why I don't want my gf to have this Lap RNY.

Sorry I have no clue about help exept that you must demand an answer and a diagnosis.

Topic: RE: hair loss
yup, it is just something set up in the signature area.

I am almost 5 months out and I thought that I wouldn't lose my hair at all.  Wishful thinking I guess.  I have noticed in the last 2 weeks that I have hair on my shirt, or in an eyelash or tangled up in my fingers or somewhere.  At first I thought I was just being paranoid but now I know that I am starting to lose some hair.  I can't see the difference yet but I am freaking out anyway.  I have seen women who have thinning hair and you can see straight through their scalp.  I am afraid that this is what I am in for.  Eeeek and ugh.

Google Malabsorption and you will discover it is indeed a disease.
