Topic: RE: Unexplained Pain on Left Side
Hello, I am also having the same issue. I am almost two years out and I have had every test in the world done. At least that is how I feel. I know that after the surgery I have become lactose intolerant. I have had several friends suggest that I should take Gluten out of my diet to see if that will help. My start weight was 272 and I am now 135. I am not sure what the problem is but I did have scar tissue removed last August and that did not resolve the pain. Feel free to e-mail me. I would love to be pain free.

Thanks,

I had a very similar situation. It turned out I had an internal hernia due to a modified gastric bypass did post-colic 4 years ago. It required emergency surgery. Find a competent surgeon now! Don't delay! I don't wish to scare you, but  a proper diagnosis would have saved me  a lot of pain. Good luck!

Topic: RE: Finally figured out my problem! Candy Cane Roux Syndrome
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. My only concern is...is it really considered a botched surgery, or a complication? My surgeon seemed pretty interested by the whole thing, even pulled in the head of the program to fix it - like it was something that didn't happen often.

I considered a DS revision depending on the outcome of this recent surgery. I'm gonna give the RNY one last go, though - I think I'm in a better place than I was before. Best of luck with your journey!

Topic: Rapid weight loss again - 6 yrs post op
Hi everyone. I am 6 years post op and in the last 6-8 months my weight loss kicked back in again. I had been maintaining at around 160-165 and intentionally lost down to 155. Well, I guess I'm an overachiever because I can NOT stop the weight loss. I weighed on Friday at the dr's office and I weighed 130. I am 5'8", wearing a size 4 pants and they are getting loose on me. I don't know what to do. I am sick and tired of everyone freaking out telling me how skinny I am and them saying that I look unhealthy, am nothing but skin and bones, etc. Besides that, I am not very happy at this weight. I am having issues finding clothes that fit. I do want to gain weight - I'd like to gain about 15 pounds.

I have tried everything I can think of to gain. Grazing, high calorie drinks and snacks. I can't eat much still - even at 6 years post op. I got very sick last  year after my GB removal and had been put on meds for a bad knee that made me vomit a lot. That certainly had a lot to do with the weight loss. I do eat and I do keep my meals down most of the time.

My question is - do any of you have any ideas what I can do to gain weight? My surgeon retired and I haven't found another one that will take me (I haven't tried very hard either, frankly).

Thanks in advance for your advice and input. I really appreciate it.

Topic: Not fixed yet??
I posted this as my new blog post, but figured I would put it out here, just in case anyone else can shed some light :)

Almost exactly one month to the day since my last surgery, I was at work (Memorial Day), been feeling great, not just fine, but great!  I ate lunch, and a few hours later felt really bloated, and had some abdominal pain, but even that didn't get me down, I worked the rest of my shift and wasn't worried because it was a completely different pain that what I used to have!  I still have calorie issues, so even though I didn't feel great, I still felt like I had to eat dinner, so I ate...and then that old, familiar, horrible feeling started...the bad nausea started creeping in, I popped a Phenergan to try and stop it, no luck, then it moved on to the inability to swallow my own saliva, which is bad enough, but then you add hyper-salivation to the mix, terrible, and then the pain, back in the same old spot, Left upper/lower quadrant abdominal pain that was easily a 9-10!  I just looked at my husband and said this must be a nightmare because I thought we were done with this.  So, after some debate, and a call to a wonderful friend, we ended up in the ER AGAIN!!  As most of you know, I work in the ER, so they have gotten quite the education about my problems, and are wonderful, they got me comfortable, somewhat, pain was still about a 7-8 after meds, and I spent the next 5 days in the hospital, mostly getting fluids (NPO of course- couldn't pay me to eat at that point), and then the GI doctor wanted to repeat the colonoscopy/upper endoscopy that was done in February to see what was going on.  My advice, if you have to have the prep for the colonoscopy, do the pills, not the gallon of go-lightly (funny name for that stuff), just make sure that you get some anti-nausea meds on board before taking the 32 pills!!  So, a diagnosis of a bad case of gastritis, and a Psych consult later (oh yeah, the fun never ends! I must be NUTS because they can't figure it all out!)  I will agree that the stress of being sick for over a year is probably not helping, but I refuse to believe that it is the SOLE cause.  So, here I am, not sure if I even want to bother finding out what it is that makes me sick, or just manage life with 2-3 visits to the ER each month??  I know some of you suffer with similar issues, I'll take any advice at this point.  I haven't completely lost my sense of humor yet, close though.

Topic: RE: Adhesions Causing Pain on both sides of Abdomen??
Maureen,
I have had 5 additional surgeries since my RNY 10/30/07, and even if the surgeries were not specifically meant to tackle adhesions, they have lysed adhesions every single time.  I just had my last surgery 4/28/09, and I felt great for about 3-4 weeks afterwards, the "permanent" abdominal pain that I had for a year was finally gone, I was eating better, less nausea, and then on Memorial Day it started all over again.  I don't really have the answer, because I am still struggling myself, but trust your surgeon (mine is great!), and if you don't, then seek out someone who will listen to you and what your body is telling you.
Take care

Topic: RE: Need Help!!! Abdominal Pain!!

Hi there. It is 3:20 a.m. and I am writing around here in NYC with terrible upper abdominal pain. I went on line to see if I could fine anyone on OH with this.  My RNY was almost 6 months ago and I've never had pain like this.  will be calling the DR in the a.m., but how to get through the night??!! Oh wow, this hurts. at first I thought it was a stuck piece of food that won't go down (I had steak for dinner), but  I ate 9 hours ago. I don't know what it is, but i want it to stop!

Topic: RE: 3 years post op having horriffic low back-leg pain
I assume that you've had ultrasound done to rule out DVT (blood clots)?

I definitely have DVT in my right leg and the pain was akin to what you've described.

Hope you get some relief soon!
