Topic: RE: X-post another COMPLICATION now Anemic!
Thanks for the info!  Sorry it took so long for me to respond. Hopefully this week I'll get some solid answers.  Tired of being tired all the time.  I'm wondering if this anemic thing is inherited.  I think my mom went for B-12 shots and Iron,  All I remember was she was tired all the time also.  Anyway, hope your weekend was great! Take care!

Thanks for taking the time to write.  About a week ago, I went to a new hematologist and she seems to know a lot about WLS patients.  She took a gallon (or so it seemed) of blood and the results are still pending.  Did the bone marrow test and all was "normal"  Hopefully this week, I'll get some answers.  I'll ask about the hemolytic anemia.  Also i'll ask about RBC's? (Red Blood Count??)
All this medical jargon makes my head swim!
Hope you get to feeling better!  Again Thanks for the info!

I have developed a different type of anemia...NON-Iron-Deficient Anemia, hemolytic anemia.  My RBCs produce like crazy in the bone marrow, but because of malabsorption, they are rupturing far too quickly.  Iron infusions do NOT help...after the one I had in July, my RBCs dropped.

Get a good hematologist!  Get tested...I had a bone marrow biopsy, which revealed the latest.

Topic: RE: low potassium and another surgery :(
Eight days ago, I was having nausea and diarrehea (sp?). I then had chills. My stomach had major pain so bad that it felt like labor. I drove myself to closest hospital and they transferred me to another one where my surgeon is at. My potassium levels were down, I was dehydrated and had a blockage in my small intestines. 7 days later I was released, I now have a drain from my old stomach that leaks green bile. I have quite a bit of soreness and I have a terrible Poop taste in my mouth. I have a follow up appt with my surgeon again in 2 days. I am just not feeling as good as I thought that I should. Especially since this was not as big of a surgery as the bypass. I know that from some searches that low potassium can cause major problems. That was a big one of why I was so ill, once that was under control then my vomiting and pain was able to be controlled. If I could get rid of this drainage and horrific taste then I would be feeling 10 x's better. I wish you the best and I will say a prayer for you. We are definitely in the same boat and I hope that neither of us ever goes through this again. I dont wish this on anyone.

Topic: RE: Exploratory surgery?
I have had problems since March of this year. I had a small bowl obstruction which my doctors think was  from adhesion's. I have been to the emergency room 3 times since then with unexplained severe pain in my upper stomach region,  I have had CT scans and its kind of hit and miss with diagnosis. One doctor wants to put me in hospital, one thinks it will resolve its self. Because of my past complications (from VBG in 2005) I have learned to take this pain very serious, I know its not right. I'm still waiting for results from my GI series last Thursday, I pray something shows up so I don't have to go the surgery route. I spent 2 years from the first surgery with no diagnosis only to find out what a serious problem I had. I have no appetite but I make myself eat to get my protein and I take my vitamins. The pain I get is a 10 on a scale of 1-10, doesn't happen all the time, usually happens after I fall asleep and lasts anywhere from 2 hours to 8. I should have gone to emergency room the last time, but Its like the same routine,,,,CT scan.  Has anyone else had to go this route? Believe me its not what I want but I have to find out whats going on. Thanks for the responds, Katrina

Topic: RE: anyone experience hip pain after surgery?

I have had kinda the same thing. Since my band surgery and losing 150 lbs. my hips and lower back hurt when I stand for long periods of time or walk a lot. This did not happen when I was 280 lbs. because I was a part-time head cashier at Home Depot and had to walk all the time from Garden to Lumber with no problem but last fall I took at job at Ann Taylor Loft and only lasted a week!

I have never quit a job but I could not stand the pain I was having in my hips and back. I have noticed that when I go shopping with family and friends I have to sometimes sit down because I can't stand it.

Looks like after losing 150 lbs. my back and hips would be better not worse!! Don't know what is going on.

Katrina,
Ditto everything Laura said.  There are so many schools of thought, just for example, there are many surgeons who believe that adhesions cause pain/problems, and then a whole other group who think that is a farce.  Take it from me, do not hesitate on the second opinion, any good surgeon worth his salt would welcome and encourage you to get one, and if they don't...too bad for them :)  It is your body, some people get 2-3 estimates before they get their cars fixed, this is your body, your vehicle, sorry, I'm feeling philosophical today :)
Good luck!

Not exactly sure what your complications are.  Are you having pain? inability to eat?  Too much weight loss?  Not enough weight loss?  It just depends on what your issues are whether this is a reasonable approach or not.  I would like to think our surgeons are not in it for the money and just doing surgeries to make money...but you definitely need to do your research and make sure that an exploratory surgery is right for you.  There are risks with any surgery; i.e. infection, excess bleeding, and even death.  It is definitely worth the extra research and possibly even a second opinion before you go ahead with this!

Good luck, and I hope you feel better and that it all goes well for you!

Topic: gallbladder problems
hi, i'm new to the board. my mother is thinking about getting gb, so i wanted to research it. it was incredibly difficult to find a board with complaints about gbs. i had my gallbladder removed a couple of years ago and had no problems finding a few boards about that.

actually, my gallbladder removal is the purpose of this thread. i haven't had gbs, but i have had my gall bladder removed, and it seems that many of you have gallbladder problems. i think that perhaps since you had the gbs first, you may not be aware of the symptons of either gallstones, or the problems you may have after getting the gallbladder removed.  iff you have any questions, maybe i can help.
