Topic: RE: A week of revelations, scary and a triumph
HI LAURA  MY NAME IS PATRICI PATTON AND I TOO HAVE HAD NUMEROUS COMPLICATIONS AND AFTER TODAY'S SCOPE I NEED TO MAKE THE DECISION ON A REVERSAL I HAVE TO CALL THE SURGEON AT 4 PM HE FEELS I AM 20-30 LBS TOO THIN, I CAN ONLY EAT A FEW BITES HAVE BEEN ON TPN AND REMAIN ON A FEEDING TUBE WITH FEEDINGS AND FREE WATER AT NIGHT. I FEEL SO LONELY BECAUSE OTHERS HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE. I PERSONALLY CAN NOT BEAR TO GAIN WEIGHT. I HAVE INVESTED 2 1/2 YEARS OF TRYING TO PERSERVE THIS BYPASS. I HAVE NO POUCH BECAUSE IT WAS SVERED IN FEB OF 09 BECAUSE IT WAS EMBEDDED ON THE POSTERIOR SIDE OF MY LIVER AND MY ANASTOMOSIS CLOSED OFF. I HAD TWISTED INTESTINES AND NOW WHAT LITTLE FOOD I DO GET DOWN GOES IN TO MY ESOPHAGUS DOWN THROUGH THE ANASTOMOSIS AND DOWN INTO MY LIMB I MALABSORB EVEYTHING AND IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE FEEDING HOLDING MY WEIGHT I WOULD BE DEAD BY NOW. I AM CRUSHED, DEVASTED AND HEART BROKEN AT THE PROSPECT I FAILER I COULD NOT DIET AND KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF. I CAN NOT EVEN HAVE A GASTRIC BYPASS AND DO IT RIGHT. I HAVE INVESTED 1000'S OF DOLLARS LITERALLY IN A WARDROBE I HAVE DREAMT OF ALL MY ADULT LIFE. MY KIDNEYS AND LIVER ARE IN TROUBLE BY THE MOST RECENT BLOODWORK OF 2 WEEKS AGO. I HAVE BEEN HOSPITALIZED 14 TIMES, SURGERIES 8X A FEEDING TUBE AND 15 EGD'S NOT TO MENTION THE TESTS I HAVE HAD DONE. ALL HAD LEGIMATE PROBLEMS THAT WERE CORRECTED BUT MY FUNCTION WILL NOT COME BACK.BY A REVERSAL I CAN NOT IMAGINE THAT THINGS ARE GOING TO CHNAGE. I WILL CONSIDER A REVERSAL WITH A LAP BAND. SO THAT IS MY DECISION AND THAT IS WHAT WE DID DISCUSS IN THE PAST. LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU....PATRICIA PATTON UNIONTONW PA

Topic: Gastric Fistula
Hello, I had RNY surgery in 2003 and successfully kept my weight off until I recently started gaining weight for some strange reason. I went in for an endoscopy and found out that I have a gastric fistula so I'll have to have surgery to repair it. Does anyone have any stories to share? Any similar experiences?

Thanks so much!

WOW!  What an ordeal you have to endure....  I hope things are better for you now.  Please keep us posted.  We don't often hear of to many reversals and the information you provide as your body adjusts to being "put back" is very informative to all of us WLSers...

Thanks for sharing.

Have you had your gall bladder out?  Was your pouch transected or does it have a staple line?  How often do you take NSAIDS?   Motrin is one of them and NSAIDS is something RNYers should avoid.  It can cause ulcers in the lining of the pouch.  I would suggest finding a doctor/PCP who is familiar with bariatric patients and request an endoscopy and an upper GI to see what is going on.  There could be several things going on with your pouch/stomach.

I hope you feel better soon and things turn out well for you.  Good luck.

 Michelle,

Good luck to you on your exploratory surgery.  I had the same symptoms but I lived with mine for 2 years and the most excruciating pain I have ever felt when an attack would occur....come to find out I had adhesions.  These can not be caught easily, if at all with CT and X-rays.  They can also be life threatening so you are doing the right thing by getting them checked out.

Good luck to you.

How much blood? Running blood or dab on the paper?

Color?

Now, I suspect if it was me, fresh out of surgery, I probably would pester my surgeon's office til I saw HIMSELF or his 2nd.

Sometimes it's "nothing", sometimes it's "something", but somebody needs to really CHECK YOU OUT, not just wave a hand and tell you to go away.

I can't guess what the issue is, of course, just that rectal bleeding can be minor or life threateningly major.

You deserve to receive top notch care. You don't have to settle for being waved aside. I had to get old to get brave, but I wish someone had just TOLD me I only had to hold my ground. No need to be rude, or yell or cuss.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I am in the same boat...I am scheduled for exploratory sugery on Nov. 11th..I have been having what I call attacks for almost a month now...severe abdominal pain that last about an hour to 4 hours...but comes and goes...when it first happened my surgeon ordered a ct scan that showed nothing...he put me on ulcer meds and I was fine for 3 weeks..then I had three nights of severe attacks...after another ct scan that shows nothing he has decided to do surgery to go in and take a look around...it is so weird because it comes and goes...I have not had an attack since Tuesday but want to get to the bottom of the problem...the pain is a "10" when I am having an attack...my surgery will be same day...and I will get to go home that night....I hope that this is the right option for both of us!

I've seen twice now where you say go to your profile for complication issues/info and there's nothing there but your general story.  What am I looking for?  Thanks.
