Topic: RE: XPOST: Gall Bladder Surgery Last Monday and in BIG Pain
Hello OH family I am researching this topic after the surgery. So happy to see I am not alone in the pain, gas and overall experience. My Gall bladder although stone free was not emptying which was confirmed by Hyda scan and out it came on 3/12/10. I am still in hospital going home today after a miserable day of pain and gas etc. Yes so much more painful than the RNY and I had to explain and re=explain to my nurses and docs my anatomy is not the same as the average belly and I need to be dealt with differently. So although they were trying to kick me out the door i requested IVF put back up i could not eat or drink, pain was unbearable and I needed something to get the gasses going. Well 24 hours later and deinate improvement. I am sure the recovery will still have its challenges and I hope i am ready to tackle them because I have been a sad mess these past few days. Reglan, miralax, zofran, percocet, ivf oh my this has not been fun. My pain tolerance is obviously different with the weight loss. I was a tough cookie I no longer am I have sadly discovered.
Had this not come unexpectantly I would have gone to my RNY surgeon for the GB surgery I believe in my heart they would have been more sympathetic.

I'm sorry you're hurting. Been there and done that!
Can you go see your WL surgeon? Perhaps he'd see you at a reduced rate since you are his patient? Otherwise, a gastrointerologist is in order. It could be numerous things -- one of them being a bowel obstruction (yes -- even though you are passing gas and having diarrhea. Google "bowel obstruction" and read up a bit. A BO could become fatal and you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
I'm not saying that you have that but you do have symptoms. It could be IBS, a bacterial imbalance, and a plethora of other possibilities. Pain is a sign that something is wrong. You should see a doctor as soon as possible.
I hope you feel better soon!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side. The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

Topic: Pain...Plz Help!!!
I am 4 years post op lap rny. Over the past few months I have been experiencing periodics bouts of pain and agony. I have no insurance at this time so I figured I would just describe my symptoms and ask for feedback.
So about every 5 or 6 weeks I become extremely constipated. My belly feels tight and very uncomfortable. I'll have bouts of pain and occasional vomitting after eating. It's like nothing is moving down no bm's or passing of gass but lots of burps. After a few days of these symptoms it turns to terrible diarrea. It's so bad I cannot leave the house for a day or two. I contiue to feel terrible for a few days; lathargic, upset stomach, pain.
I have had pain bad enough to make me wanna go to the ER but I have avoided it because I dont wanna pay to be looked at by a dr. that has no experience with rny and will probably just send me home with a bottle of pills.

Let your PCP know that the muscle relaxers are not working. Did you have a vaginal birth? Did you have an epidural? Sometimes, with vaginal birth the tailbone can be broken and takes time to heal.
I know that for several months I had a lot of tailbone pain after my WLS I think due to the weight loss. It seemed no matter where I sat my tailbone hurt! My BM's also changed. They were thinner, lighter in color and I did have some constipation issues at times. However, I think this is also something you should let your doc know about if it concerns you. I was glad to know that I had a colonoscopy just a very short time prior to WLS as the change in BMs was a bit concerning to me, and I would have called the doctor if I had not of just been checked.

Topic: RE: Exploratory surgery for stomach pain....
Your pains sounds exactly like the pain I had with an internal hernia. Hope you are getting surgery soon. I had one that I had repaired with an exploratory lap. Then, only six days later, I had another that progressed to a complete small bowel
obstruction. And, like you, I was worried they would not find anything! The pain came and went for me initially, until I had the bowel obstruction. Then, it was constant for about 15hrs before they did surgery to repair the bowel obstruction. I ended up with wound and internal infections, had to be hospitalized again on IV antibiotics and have the wound opened and then at home was packing my wound twice a day. I had constant nausea for about 3-4 wks, and missed 11 weeks of work.

Thank you so much Mary...for following me to the other board also!!! You are always so kind. I know the pain is very real and I know my surgeon feels the same way. But I still feel that I would be embarassed if nothing was found. Not that I want anything bad wrong with me, but I want to know what is going on!

Here I am again - following you over to another board :) - anyway - PLEASE don't think about being afraid that they will find nothing wrong with you. A good frined of mine recently had shoulder surgery and all she could think of beforehand was what if they don't find anything - stressed herself out totally. IF you are having pain - there IS a reason. About adhesions - BIG cause of abdominal pain and discomfort in my experience - looking after patients I mean. 7 abdominal surguries is a significant number - and adhesions could well have happened in there. Take care sweetie!
