Hi,
I hope this finds you in a better state of health...
Please read my story. I weight 98 pounds and scheduled for a revision due to complications including an ulcer, stricture, hernias, fistula, as well as having my gastrojejunal anastomosis being located at the unused protion of my stomach. I know all comlications are different, but I have also lost weight like you did.. I am a walking skeleton. I will have my feeding tube inserted this Wednedsay whiuich is also the day of my surgery. How long does it take to gain weight on the feeding tube?
I just need some support. My life is at risk. I will find so much hope if you are doing better.

I HATE PRENATALS

No vit D?

No, I've pretty much just stuck to the basics. Prenatal multivitamin, calcium, b12, folic acid, and my trusty colace. :)

Like you need to grab your pot of iron and pour a little into each of the other cups, huh?

Liver enzymes. Are you taking milk thistle?

Oh, it's for real. I have all my labs since surgery plugged into a spreadsheet and you can see the steady decline in ferritin and rise in iron serum and saturation. I had my labs reviewed by a clinician friend of mine and he also said he's seen it, but very rarely. Apparently hypothyroidism can cause issues with ferritin (despite the lovely B12 and folate numbers) and I've asked to have that test run as well.  He also sees a pattern in my liver enzymes, too.  We'll see what the meeting w/my surgeon brings at the end of the month.  Hopefully, we can figure out a way to get the ferritin back up so my body can use some of that iron that's just free-floating around! :)

OK, something is not right

How you can be anemic and high in iron at the same time?

Perhaps a mis-draw?

Ferritin of 12, Hct of 30 are hideous.

I cannot imagine how you got that iron

Your B12/folate are so lovely, the "health" shoulda drained over to your other numbers

 HI.

I am sorry to hear about your problems but, can relate to difficulty in finding anyone to touch you after problems have occurred. I noticed you are in Michigan(or at least you dealt with U of MI so  "figure" you are from Michigan. I have spent the last few years looking for answers to my pain, nausea and dry heaves and have dealt wih ulcers, fistulas, etc.
I hope you are pain free soon and able to start gaining some health and weight. I have been the walking skeleton too- its not a good look on anyone.

Blessings- Feel free to email me anytime.

Topic: Iron Overload? Anemia?

I received a call from my surgeon's office yesterday and have been 'summoned' to meet with him because my labs came back all wonky.  I'm 2.5 years post RNY and have had great success with my surgery. The wonked out labs are as follows:

Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity  - 144 (LOW)
Iron Serum - 211 (HIGH)
Iron Saturation - 59 (HIGH)
B12 - 1787 (HIGH)
Folate - >21.7
WBC - 3.4 (LOW)
RBC - 3.18 (LOW)
Hemoglobin - 10.3 (LOW)
Hematocrit - 30.9 (LOW)
Ferritin - 12

I have never taken iron supplements, but am religious about my multivitamin, calcium, B12, and folic acid.

Any ideas? I don't meet with my surgeon until the end of April.
