O.K here is the latest I was admitted back into the hospital on 6/18/2010 again for dehydration. This time the dehydration would not and did not show up on my blood work! They could tell from my urine color as well as my blood pressure! They told me to be prepared to stay until they found out what was wrong! The surgeon had my regular Doctor admit me! He said that him and the other Surgeon are leaving town on Tuesday and wont be bac****il Friday for a conference!
They found a stricture, another ulcer & some other things in side the stomach! The Gastroenterologist Doctor said he does not understand why the Surgeon who did the last upper endoscopies did not see this.
He fixed it and will advise the other Doctors and the Surgeons on how to treat the ulcer so that this one heals! He did say, I will be here for a while yet! I need to heal and be able to eat solid food and keep it down! He thinks the nausea, the vomiting and the diarrhea will all be a thing of the past!

Topic: Severe abdominal pain
Hey guys, I am at a loss here.(post lap rny 3/08, gallbladder removed 7/08). I have been having severe stomach pains since april. the pain was so bad i went to the er in april, couldn't find anything wrong, saw my surgeon he decided to do exploratory lap(not expecting to find anything because all tests were normal). I had surgery may 7, and i had intussusception. now i am still having the same pains as i had before surgery. I went to er last week for the pains had ct scans, egd(scoped) yesterday, all normal. after the egd yesterday went to eat had a couple bites of chicken, black eye peas and spinach. about 30 min later severe pain. this pain is so bad i can't breathe,or move, i could scream. I have to clench my fists to get through it. the pain lasts about 1 min but comes in waves about every 5-10 min apart. usually this last for 2 hours. i get bloated, and after the pains my stomach is so tender i feel like i've been beaten. i have been keeping a diary of what i ate and when i get the pains, seems like i get the pains weekly, not every day, and not always after eating. i called my surgeon yesterday during the pain episode, spoke with them today, they think i am dumping. now, i have a hard time believing this because i have dumped in the past and this is totally different. not to mention the fact that i haven't changed my diet in the past 2 years. the dr seems to think i am eating to many carbs, but why would i dump on white beans and rice if i've been eating this, probably weekly for the past 2 years with no problem? i am very frustrated at this point, i am on FMLA leave for work. I feel like i am being blown off. what if the intussusception is coming back or something else? i just don't buy the dumping syndrome as an answer. i am going to try a bland diet for a week to see what happens. anybody out there have any of this, or any advice?

I haven't logged on here for months.. and can't believe yours was the first post I read. i recently had surgery for an internal hernia that caused a small bowel obstruction...while 26 weeks pregnant. I am about a year and a half out from lap RNY with no problems what-so-ever until then. It presented as SEVERE stomach pain with nausea/vomiting. It took docs 3 days to figure it out...the baby had everyone confused...it was nothing to do with her! Well, they wised up real quick when I started puking stool...yuck I know. Point is, ever since they fixed the hernia & obstruction I have been having frequent stomach pain and ALOT of nausea. While pregnant, all the docs said was the baby is fine & hopefully it will go away with delivery! I delivered a healthy, beautiful girl 6 weeks ago & I have an appointment w/my surgeon on wed as the symptoms have continued...we shall see....this is miserable!! I was the perfect weight loss surgery patient until the hernia and now I almost wish I had never had it (the weight loss surgery OR the hernia of course!)!!! I am hoping the surgeon can fix me....

5 years ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer and ended up having a right hemi-colectomy
That’s where they remove part of the colon to get rid of the cancer. My dad had this and it
Eventually killed him. We thought it would be a good idea for me to get checked early on,
And sure enough, they found that I had it as well. Luckily the Cancer hadn’t spread and the
Doctors were able to get all of the cancer. I have had a couple rechecks to confirm that it hasn’t
Returned.
So 2 years ago (2008) I had Bariatric surgery. I have been obese my entire life. I actually can’t
remember a time when I wasn’t fat. The heaviest I can attest to is 441 pounds. It’s possible
that I weighed more at some time, but that is the heaviest weight I have a record of.
During the whole surgery process (pre-diet & post surgery) I have lost 250 pounds. I have
Completed several sprint triathlons, a couple 10k races, 2 half-marathons, and several shorter
distance races. I have been feeling great. Maybe a little disappointed that things haven’t come
as easy as I thought they would. I seriously thought that when I dropped the weight, exercise
would be easy, that the only thing holding me back was my weight. I had always played sports,
but I had never been physically fit.
Well things had been going great. Last year I had some really bad abdominal and back pain
It was so bad that I thought it was going to make me throw up. I went into the emergency room.
They gave me an I.V. with some morphine to kill the pain. They also did x-rays and a C.T. scan
to see if they could figure out what was happening. It turns out that I had gallstones. But more importantly
they found something with my liver. There was what looked to be enlarged veins on my liver. It
apparently is also causing varises in my esophagus due to the increased pressure. So now I’m
having to take a beta-blocker medication and an anti acid medication.
Well this kicked off a whole bunch of testing. I had no history of hepatitis, or alcohol abuse or any
other liver disease, so they didn’t know what was going on. I had to have my gallbladder taken out
because of the stones, so they did a liver biopsy while they were in there. The biopsy came back fine
no problems or liver disease that they could find. The next step was referral to a specialist at
the University of San Francisco.
Dr. Bass is the head of the liver transplant team at UCSF. So this had me freaked out that they were
sending me to see the head of the transplant team. I’m thinking that my life as I know it is over.
I’m starting to generate my own depression and anger over this. WTF Cancer, then I try to get myself
healthy and I end up with some liver disease or abnormality. I was feeling pretty down.
Dr. Bass didn’t have any answers for me, but he did recommend some additional testing. On the good
side, he didn’t think that my liver was failing or that I was in any immediate danger of falling over dead.
He was actually a very pleasant man and I enjoyed my visit with him. I wish all doctors took the time to
have the educational conversations, Q&A session we had. I think anyone who has him for a doctor is very
lucky indeed.
So out of this visit with Dr. Bass, I returned to Kaiser with a whole boat load of additional blood work tests
another C.T. scan, and an Angiography.
The C.T. scan once again confirmed the enlarged varices. I was scheduled for the Angiography. With the
Angiography they put a catheter into your femoral artery in your groin and then inject dye directly into the
Areas they want to view. This dye shows up on the x-ray equipment and they can actually follow the flow
of the blood. They sedate you for this, so you really don’t feel anything, I was constantly fading in and out
of a twilight type sleep. This test confirmed that the there is a blockage of the mesenteric artery and it is
causing the blood to back to have to use alternate pathways. This peripheral circulation is causing an
increase in pressure known as portal hypertension. The auxiliary pathways are enlarged and under stress
the issue with this is it could cause internal bleeding. They also placed a catheter in my jugular vein and thread
it down into the area being tested to check the amount of pressure being created by this issue. Even though
I didn’t feel either of these procedures, it still makes me squeamish to think about it.
The $100,000 question is why? They don’t really know. They sent me to see a hematologist, and he doesn’t
think it is a blood clotting issue. I do have two genes that are mutated and say I’m predisposed to clotting issues
but none of the testing they have done actually show that I have any clotting issues. Additionally he said that this
has been going on for a while, because it takes time for the peripheral circulation to get to the condition it is in.
He thinks that it is more likely to have been caused by one of the abdominal surgeries I had. Either the cancer
surgery or the weight loss surgery. He is leaning towards it being caused during the weight loss surgery, as they didn't see it on an earlier CT scan done during the time between the cancer surgery and the WLS but it does appear after the WLS. The good news is I won’t have to go on blood thinners, at least not at this time.
So now I’m waiting to hear what’s next. The doctor who did the Angiogram said they may want to put a coil
into the area of they portal hypertension to try and reduce the pressures. So anyhow that’s what I know so far.

Hi Deanne...
I had the same types of problems after my ERNY..... I suffered with malnutrition, despite eating CORRECTLY and a lot of proteins, supplements, etc, etc, etc. After getting the ERNY reversed, I am not deficient in that respect any longer.

Topic: No More Band for Me
Well I haven't been around in a while. I have been having problems with my port - it felt like someone was pulling it from the outside in for at least a month now. I don't have insurance right now so of course I kept putting off getting it looked at. Finally last Thursday I touched this hard area on my stomach and "stuff" came out! It scared the crap out of me so I called the doctor and they got me right in (and only charged me $50 which was great!). As soon as they saw it they said I had a serious infection and had to go right to the hopsital for IV antibiotics and band and port removal in the morning. I can't say that I am exactly sad about it being this is my 4th surgery having do do with the band. And this recovery was definitely worse than any other. I still have an open wound where they had to debreed the infection. The infection went all the way through to the port and tubing. I definitely get hungry a lot more - my stomach is constantly growling but I have been good by just trying to drink water instead of eating. No one knows why or how this happened but it did and I am dealing with it. I am still swollen from surgery but am down a few pounds already. Just wanted to share my story.

I had my WLS in December 2005, and I have been throwing up ever since. Some days I do well, and others I can't even get out of bed. The fatigue is even worse.
In August 2009, I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease and now have meds and a machine to help me control the nausea, and thank God it does. I feel like a new woman and am finally able to make plans and live a fuller life.

I am Just another weightloss Surgery Mystery!
I need help and I am sick of waiting for answers. I can barely drink 16oz of water per day and I eat a few saltines and then I am lucky I get those to stay down. I have diaherra to worry about along with the nausea and vomiting! they have me taking Phenegren, Zanax, Carafate, Zoloft, Zantac and Prilosec! A few of my liver enzymes are elevated and I have constant heart burn. I had a feeding tube until the reversal on 5-10-10. I dont know what else to do any suggestions!
