Topic: RE: Major Complications Almost 6 years-Chronic Nausea, vomiting, pain, severe deficiencies-less than 1%
mother1991, I just had an open reversal of a rny, 3 weeks ago, in my case I had huge ulcers and severe malabsorbtion problems even though I was able to gain almost 90 lbs starting 6+ years post op. because there are studies now that show certain post ops even graduate post ops can malabsorb so many years after surgery, that vitamins even those designed for bariatric surgical patients and other nutrients, never get absorbed on a cellular level. A lot of people don't understand my particular situation how I could be so malnourished but still experience a severe weight gain. I just started blogging about under my profile after not being on OH for years. Good luck to you in finding out what will best help you. hugs, Lisa

Topic: RE: Severe abdominal pain
just an update, after seeking 2 second opinions, both doctors stated i need exploratory surgery to r/o intermittent intussusception or intermittent internal hernia.  unfortunately my symptoms are worsening, still out of work.(now with FMLA leave expiring, may loose my position at my job).  So my original surgeon spoke with his partner(whom i saw as a second opinion only because my GI dr was friends with him and wanted me to see him) and i am scheduled for an exploratory surgery on oct 7th.  i had horrible pains saturday night that felt like my insides were being ripped out, i chose not to go to the er only because i've been so much and know the drill, i just as soon stay home and suck it up ( i have pain meds and phenergan).  anyway, i've been feeling bad ever since.  i just hope they find what's wrong with me and i get better.  thanks for listening.

Was looking over some of the labs done at UCLA when I was admitted for tests.

It was interesting as my serum carotene had never been tested but it was low, which was interestesting, and my calcium levels were normal before the new labs were drawn this week but my calcium levels are low even though on calcium citrate and on calcitriol which is supposeed to help utilize calicium better and stop the spillage in urine. zinc is fine too.  My CRP is high an so is my Sed Rate, both which can be from inflamatory response but not specified where.  Alkaline phosphatase still high H Pylori is negative.  Just ots of different things and still no much pattern in things but still have to wait till biopsies come in and know what the one area was different then the rest.  still tired still not feeling wellm but many specialist many things to still explore and find out when all the picture can be brought together and some may be related while others are not. still uncertain but it is ok, sorry if i ramble on too much.  have a good weekend all.

Friday night and home.  Boy it was fun for prep of colonoscopy since thursday a colonoscopy and extensive endoscopy were done with lots of biopsies.  go back ion 3 weeks to go over results as some of tests with pathology can take time as some are highly specialized.  At least a trial of a new med for nausea to go with the other two I take and seems to help.  It is called marinol and is a derivative component of pot that is legal and given to patients normally given chemo to help with nausea but it can alsbe used for others with chronic nausea issues as well.  all i know is my insurance company really loves me and they can not cu me because I am sick which i am thankful for.

i will post more when i know more

I too am 3 years out with RNY and have the same problem.  Very scary.  I just put myself on a low, low carb diet, powdered protein drinks every hour.  Don't know what I'll do when I need to start eating carbs again.   This is a real problem for a lot of us, and we just need to find what works to regulate our sugar.  For me, just high protein, very low carbs, little or no fat and sugar at all.  Back to basics I guess.

Update all
There was a cancelation at the Gastroenterologist at UCLA and I saw him yesterday.  He is concerned of the deficiencies an the seeemingly down spiral of some health issues.  Trying to get insurance auth as he wasnts to admit me for a couple of days to extensive tests some requiring an anesthesiologist and also do IV nutritional supplementation.  Did have a whole mess of labs drawn yesterday too eneded up being about 15 vials.

I did have to goto my local ER on Saturaday night as I felt really off and my pulse was higher than the higher norm and had the worst headache and very ewxtreme nausea, I was dehydrated partly and other stuff could be chalked up to the deficiencies, ER doc thought I had chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia but do not really think that is going on with me and I know he did not really understrand the complexitity of health issues but had 2 liters of fluids meds for nausea and some pain meds and sent home after being there 4 hours, he did run some labs which showed deterioration from labs done on the 7th of september.

will keep posted when i know more

Topic: RE: Possible Internal hernia?
I was having little aches on my lower left side for months but it just felt more like a kidney infection type feeling and it didn't HURT, and it would just come and go randomly for a second or two each time.
I also started having a 'lump in the throat' feeling that kept getting worse, even though I could still breathe and swallow fine, it just always felt like I had a golf ball in there that I needed to swallow to clear my throat.
I finally went to my surgeon and they did a CAT scan and he figured I had an internal hernia so we scheduled outpatient surgery to take care of it.
I ended up spending 4 days in the hospital because it turned out that I had scar tissue AGAIN on the exit hole of my stomach, AND my small intestine below my stomach exit was swollen to the size of an apple, blocked with food!
So they had to take care of both of those issues at once.
Now I'm having the same symptoms 2 weeks later and I think it's doing it again!
I'm constipated (going on 5-6 days now), smelly gas, the small aches in my stomach pouch area are back again (lower left side), and the lump in my throat feeling is back.
I do NOT want to have surgery AGAIN, but I'm guessing I probably will.

My advice is to see your surgeon ASAP and insist on at least a CAT scan or ultrasound and they can do 'exploratory' surgery like my surgeon did (and look what he found!).  Because there is SOMETHING wrong and they need to look in there and fix it before it's too late!
