COMPLICATION 10 MONTHS AFTER WLS
I developed complications 10 months after my WLS. Except for some adhesions on my intestiones my surgery was uneventful. I developed a stricture 6 weeks after but that was it. Then out of nowhere I got an obstruction. I was in the hospital over three weeks. I thought that I was safe from major complications almost a year after. Anybody have anything like that happen to them?

Donna,
Hard for me to remember, its been many more pains and problems since, but if I remember correctly it was a crampy type pain that got progressively worse as time went by. I remember having to bend over when walking when it was real bad. At first when I was told I needed surgery I said no and left the hospital. I think it was maybe a week after that the pain became so unbearable I agreed to have surgery. I think if you have an abdominal ct scan done it would show whether or not you have an obstruction pretty definitively. Hope this helps....
Donna,
One more thing I forgot to mention. What started as a partial obstruction became a total obstruction for me and at the time of the surgery I was at the point where I was throwing up and nothing could go down through the intestinal tract due to the obstruction. At the beginning though it was just pain that gradually got worse and worse but I was able to get food down.
After a year and a half out and absolutely no complications or even dumping or nausea my pouch went into spasms and I threw up for two days and could eat or drink nothing. I thought I had the flu. By day three I was in the emergency room with IV fluids for dehydration, lab work and ct scan. The scan showed there is something in my pouch but they can't tell what, Dr. said it could be food which surprised me after throwing up so much how could there be food left. The lab results were normal. They gave me anti nausea medicine and a super duper antacid and sent me home. I can drink and eat very soft food but no solid without cramping and the worst heart burn (I thought those days were over). Suppose to call Dr. if it gets worse or does not improve. I guess the scan will not tell them what it is only that there is something there. I am bewildered and hope it is not internal hernia or scar tissue. Has anyone had these symptoms resolve without surgery. Sandyd
