Mine...
Hi there!
I had posted this in the revision forum, but maybe it is better suited here...
I had a textbook Lap RNY done 6/7/05. The surgeon was
pleased a*****h with the procedure, and my journey
began. Things were good... I started at 312 two weeks
prior to surgery and was still losing consistently seven
months later.
The only complaint I really had was a pain just under
my breasts. It felt like sore muscles, and was
painful to the touch. My surgeon felt that since I
was losing so rapidly, my body was just reacting to
the loss. He put me on Mobic to relax those muscles
whenever I had an issue.
January 20th, I had a snack - some almonds. Something
did not feel right, and I ended up in the bathroom
trying to get something to move from either end. I did
succeed, but did not feel better. After about 40
minutes, I went to my boss and told her that I had to
leave.
I got home, and tried to get comfortable with a pillow
against me while lying on my bed. It did not help -
the pain got worse.
Shortly after 5:00, I called my surgeon's office, but
he was gone for the day. The nurseline there told me
to head to the er right away.
The first course of action was to get some pain
relief, but they had a tough time getting an IV
started because I had thrown up so many times. They
finally managed though, and took me for abdobminal
x-rays. They couldn't see much there, so they also
tried a CT-scan of my belly. Still couldn't see
clearly, but they knew something was blocked. Surgery
was set for Saturday, as soon as the on-call bariatric
surgeon could join the vascular surgeon.
Turns out, it was a little worse than an average
blockage. When my original sugery was done, there was
a defect in the "Y" that was created. (My surgeon was
most likely unable to see the defect because of the
fatty tissue.) It ended up twisted around, and flipped
over to the opposite side of my stomach. They took it
out completely and built a new "Y" for me.
As of this morning, I weigh 164 pounds.
I am doing better now, but concerned about the future.
The surgeons who operated are confident that they
"closed up all the holes", but how do you prevent
yourself from going into a tizzy every time you feel a
pain somewhere?
Anyway, that's my story.
Thanks for "listening".

I too had complications and whenever I get some strange pain that I havent felt before I tend to panic also. I can totally relate...I dont want to ever have to undergo any of the procedures that I had to do due to complications. I try to remain calm and "talk myself down". LOL And if I am really concerned about the pain I call and talk to the surgeon or one of his nurses or call my pcp.
Hope that you are doing better....take care of yourself!
