bowel obstruction and emergency surgery!

I had my RNY on October 4, 2005, but this past week, I had a bowel obstruction due to the fact that the part of the intestine "cut away" got logged on a sutere and started growing onto my pouch. I thought that I was going to die and I was very very scared. I was taken into emergency surgery and the obstruction was taken away, using the healed up holes from my lap RNY. To make matters worse, I was out of town.. I am still in a lot of pain and really need some input from anyone who has gone through this terrible ordeal. Is there anyone out there that has gone through something similar?

That is so horrible. I am sorry you had to go through that. I have had a bowel obstruction so I know the pain and huge ordeal that is. I have had complication after complication so I know what its like to struggle. Read my profile to get the full story. I hope it gets easier for you though!

Yes, my daughter went through it 3 years post RNY. She had an internal hernia and became septic. Please go to your surgeon at the drop of a hat. Any pain any problems go and insist on an MRI. Best wishes. Corliss

I had small bowel obstruction due to internal hernia after I had my son in december. I was on the brink of not making it since I was turned away from two different ERs and my OB, who thought it was just afterbirth pains. I was left with a little under 200cm of my small bowel. After I had emergency surgery I had complications that lead to plasma exchange, blood transfusions, dialysis, and more surgery. I was in AICU for a month and a week. Now I am home and trying to recover. I have had all my tubes removed and can eat extremely small portions of food, but I have no problem with liquids.
