Anyone had adhesions post-op?
I am 13 mos post op open RNY. About 7 mos ago, I started having pain in the middle, right side of my ribcage. I went through x-rays thinking I had cracked a rib as I had pneumonia prior to that. Those were negative. I have pretty much just let it ride since then. It is a constant, dull pain, never getting worse or better. I called my surgeon a couple of days ago and described the pain, wondering if they had seen this before. My surgeon is 2 1/2 hours away, so on his recommendation I went to my PCP today, *****commended Tylenol for a week, and if no relief, would do an MRI. I have a feeling I have adhesions, but wanted to know if anyone else had experienced similar pain.
Thank you,
Tonya

Hi Tonya!
I had adhesion removal surgery on 9/16/05. I had a lot of scar tissue my surgeon said. I was having some pain and trouble getting food down. I felt better after he took all of that out, but then my gallbladder starting to act up right after that surgery probably b/c I was eating better, so then that had to come put. All together I have had 5 surgeries(including the initial RNY) and the adhesion removal was number 3 for me.
But I did feel better after the adhesions came out. Look into seeing if he will take you back into the OR to remove them. You probably have some, pretty much everyone does but it just bothers some not others. Maybe you have some gallstones that can be causing pain too. See if you can get a ultrasound to look for them and see if your gallbladder is inflammed as well. Good luck and let me know what happens.

I forgot to mention pain on the right side under your ribcage sounds like gallbladder problems. (do you still have your gallbladder?) I was having bad pains on my right side under my ribs and they are competely gone after he took my gallbladder out. Let me know what happens!

Hi Renee,
I am sorry you are not feeling well but I know how you feel, trust me I do. I have had four surgeries(including the bypass, small bowel obstruction, adhesion removal and gallbladder) and I do not feel any better. I know the feeling of not feeling like you are gonig to get any better and this is dragging on and on. I feel that way everyday.
I have had numerious CT-scans, a couple of upper GIs and nothing. The only thing is when my GI doctor tried to do a endoscopy on me he said he had a hard time passing the scope into my pouch b/c of a sharp turn. But when I did the upper-GI he said it looked fine. I told him I do not have problems w/liquid its just food really. So it would make sense why the upper GI looks normal. I am getting a second opnion now.
The new GI doctor is going to do another endoscopy on me in a couple of weeks to see this "sharp turn" and what the old Dr. was talking about. My surgeon is going to be present during the endoscopy so he can see first hand what is going on (if anything). He said he also wants to do a colonscopy to see whats going on down there. Have you had any of these tests done to rule out anything? My surgeon is kind of lost of what else he can do. He said he doesnt want to put a zipper on me so he can open and close me every month to find whats wrong. I hope it gets easier for you.
