I had the DS and my diabetes is totally gone. I have heard in Spain they are doing the DS on non morbidly obese patients as a cure for Diabetes. If you want lots of info and questions answered about what the Duodenal Switch is and what goes along with it, there is a forum on it. Go and ask away!

Donald, I will tell you that 3 years ago, my surgeon recomended RYN over banding, but o course it was my decision. He explained that in 2 years I could still be mo. I had the banding, and had severe complications, due to my weight, I was over 400 pounds, and the band was to tight around my stomach. I had internal swelling, and ultimately had it to have it removed. It was a direct result of my weight. Some SMO do have the band, but they really don't know how big your insides are until they get there. I had open RYN 3 weeks ago, a few minor complications, but boy do I wish I did it then.
