Stricture after Port Replacement !!Help!
Hi,
Thanks for reading this.
I had my lap band surgery back in May 2004. My port incision never closed because it was infected. I really never had problems with the band until now, that on June 28th my port was replaced. I am having stricture problems but what worries me is that it has no fill. I vomit constantly, can't keep food down, or I do once in a while, I am not drinking and eating, I am trying soft foods and even liquids don't even go down. I am on my 7th week post-up and getting a little nervous. Have lots of gas and my stomack is now hurting because of the lack of food.
Anyone has had this experience and solved the problem? Only hot liquids and soups go down,.
HEEEELP!

What does your surgeon say? This should be brought to his attention asap! I do can only eat liquids so you are not alone, but please contact your surgeon. Keep me posted.

A stricture is the formation of scar tissue at the point where the RNY pouch joins the intestines, thus making the opening too small...so it's not possible to get a stricture with the band because no cutting/joining was done to form your stoma.
I suspect you may have had slippage or prolapse...what has your surgeon said? I know you posted this over a month ago...I hope you have seen your surgeon in the meantime??

By all means have your surgeon check you out under flouro. Maybe you even have infection which traveled from port area to stomach or perhaps you just need saline taken out of the band. I was banded 11-20-05 and had horrible swelling initally, even soup and tea wouldn't go down for several days. I had iv's and steroid shots, then finally it started going down and I have done great. I had some minor port problems but took a round of levaquin and that seems just fine now. I don't know that scaring in your port area should actually affect the stomach. Do get to your surgeon by all means. Corliss
