I have a hematoma the size of a grapefruit. Anyone ever had this happen? Iris D

I have the same thing at my left side incision site, I have had it since the day of surgery which was 7-31-05, its more noticable when I eat or drink something maybe from my stomach getting full and pressing on it. Its not red or bruiced and he said its fluid and it will assorb back into my body but it may take a long time. Makes me crazy.

Hello Iris, I had a hemotoma about the same size. I was told the same thing you were. Mine decided not to wait for the body to absorb, instead it came out of the drain incision. It just blew it open, {all bright red blood}. However later I developed a seroma, {which is not blood but a clear to cloudy serum or fluid and it is odorless. Also supposed to absorb itself into the body. But it has not in my case and continues to drain a little amount daily. I am 8 months post op, have lost 85 lbs and am very glad I had the surgery. The seroma in time will go, or if not, I will try to have it aspirated again. I suggest a culture, or whatever the proper term is, {have the fluid, when it and if it drain,} checked for infection just to make sure it not contaminated. Both are a very common, normally not serious. Type in ,seroma, in your search engine, you will get a lot of information on it. Do the same for , hemotoma, under a separate search. Hope information has helped you and hopefully others on this post. Joe Gonzalez II

Hello everyone! I've been doing ok. They won't remove my staples because it looks like it's still fresh. I am on an antibiotic and it seems to be getting smaller but moving extra slow. I can really feel it when I go to long between pain meds. I hope they will give me my fill soon as they are tring to wait to see about the hematoma. I'll keep you all updated. Iris D
