Hi Everyone! I am three weeks post-op and I think I may have reached my first plateau. It is really discouraging! I was so happy when I was losing pounds on a consistent basis and now I am just becoming more upset and more upset by the day. I have a hypothyroid and started on Synthroid for the first time in my life today, so I am hoping that this will help within the next couple of months. Also, I have increased my water as well as protein intakes and this is yet to work. All of a sudden I am lethargic and am having a hard time concentrating. I have a feeling that this has something to do with vitamin consumption. Has anyone experienced this at such an early point after surgery, and if so, did your body readjust after a certain amount of time? I had some complications after my surgery which set me back a bit, so maybe this is the problem? I am beginning to get nervous that I will be one of the people that this surgery just doesn't work for. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Sincerely, Diane

3 weeks out is NOT VERY LONG! RELAX this all seems normal esp if you are having thyroid problems. You must remeber that even though the scars are small the WLS is a MAJOR surgery and stress to the body. It takes anywhere from 6weeks to 6 months to recover from the assault it took. Add to the the time factor for the complications that also depelte you. The best thing is to keep on keeping on.. do what your MD says and follow the progrma he/she has set up for you. One thing you might want to consider is begin using the NIOXIN Shampooo NOW as the SYNTHROID can also cause hair loss. REMEMBER you are still a "newborn" and I don't know any newborn that can walk or even crawl!

Diane, I understand how you feel. I'm about one month post-op. I had what they call a fistula: a leak which allowed food to move from my new stomach into my old (and out my g-tube!). The doctor said they wouldn't do anything about it, because it may close up on its own. Even if it doesn't, they wont operate again unless it interferes with my weight loss. Then, in the first 2 weeks post-op I lost 27 lbs. In the next 2 weeks I lost 4-1/2 lbs. Worried about the effects of the fistula, I freaked. My doctor, very experienced in WLS, told me that every single patient he had ever operated on experienced minimal weight loss in weeks 3 and 4. He was quite emphatic that it happened to 100% of the patients. Of course, I felt MUCH better. I hope this helps you, too. Warmth, Michele (gastric bypass 7/15/05)

Diane, remember you just had major surgery and your body is still getting used to it. Its an adjustment period. When I had wls 18 months ago i swore i would be the first one it didn't work for either. I think everyone has that moment of doubt. But it does work. Give it time trust me. things will pick up and settle down. Hang in there before you know it you will be where u wanna be with your weight loss. Best of luck, Nicole -222
