Just a few words, Mexico?? why there, are u crazy I would not have a risky surgery done there. You can't even drink the water there, doesn't that tell u something! Save your life here!!

Hi Vicki, I too am looking into going to Mexico for the lap RNY. If you go to the South of the Border site, you will find helpful information from others there. There are some highly recommended Dr.'s in Mexico, just like I am doing...do your research and talk to those that have had the procedure. Good luck to you. Apparently, the flame thrower much have insurance or money is no object. They have been doing procedures in Mexico longer than in the U.S. and they do have very good facilities and Dr's. Hope this was some help. Ally

If you actually researched the issue instead of responding out of ignorance, you'd know that some of the top banding surgeons in the world (including those who've proctored and instructed many of the top US surgeons for banding) are in Mexico. Inamed, the company that makes the band, has one of its top proctors in Mexico. Nancy 394/265/180

Vicki, I was had the lapband done in Mexico in March 2005. I researched VERY carefully and took my time to make my choice. It was the best decision I ever made. My experience in Mexico was fantastic. It was VERY clean, the people were extremely curteous, my medical staff was some of the best I have ever had. I would do it again in a heartbeat! As far as the water in Mexico...yes, some places you can not drink the water. We even have those places here in the States. If you choose a quality facility, chances are there will be a special filter on the main water system anyway. The water will be just fine to drink! Just as the city I live in, there are safe, beautiful places to visit, and also the "bad" side of town that you will want to stay away from--no different than any big city here. Good luck on your search! Cyndi

people on the DS board are raving about surgery for the ds in mexico and brazil, ask there. since the DS is hard to find in the US and harder to get approvals a lot of people who self pay go south. Not familar with the ds you may want to check that out too.

Hi, Vicki, I had my DS in Mexico exactly one month ago and the experience was wonderful! My surgeon was great, no nursing shortage ( I seemed to have someone checking on me all the time), the hospital was clean and modern, and my hubby said their cafeteria food was better than some Mexican Restaurants in Texas! I wanted the DS. My ins. co. would pay for other WLS but I wouldn't settle for less. I am 4 weeks out now, I feel great, and I go back to work Monday. I have been in hospitals in the US, and the one I was in in Mexico was at least as good and in some cases, better. And the water was great! Good luck with your decision, Ann
