I am almost 6 weeks out of surgery and developed a late pouch leak. Has anyone had a similiar problem and if so how long did it take for your leak to heal? Did it heal on its own or did you have to have another surgery? Thanks.... Hugs, Dawn

I am experiencing the same problem. Had surgery June 7th. At my one week follow up appointment found out that I had infection and high temp. Dr. sent me immediately back to the hospital. Next day had test run and I also had developed a leak. After a total of 16 days in the hospital and a 2nd operation to clear infection, I am now home with a feeding tube and 2 drains. Dr. says he expects leak to seal itself. I have to feed myself through the feeding tube and can only do ice chips and popsicles through my pouch. I would love to be kept informed on how your doing and I'll let you know how it goes for me.

Hi Candace.... I just wanted to let you know that I am off the tube feedings(2 weeks now) and have already progressed to eating normal food(since I am almost 3 months out from surgery). I have had to adjust some foods and found that I cant tolerate breads very well. I still have a penrose drain, which is slowly beinging withdrawn and the g-tube. I am supposed to be tube and drain free in the next 2 weeks. I have lost a total of 40 pds(12 were before surgery) and I am looking forward to being able to exercise. I am hoping that will kick my weight loss in gear. I would love to hear how you are doing.....hope all is well and you are healed also! Hugs, Dawn

I would assume the only way to know if you have a leak would be if you have a fever? I recently had the surgery 2 weeks back and feel all sort of lings and weird sensations but health wise I feel fine. Tons of energy and no fever but I of course have pouch leak paranoia.

Was your pouch leaking into your "old" stomach, or otherwise into your body? I am one-month post-op and I supposedly had/have(?) a leak from my pouch into my old stomach. I actually saw my food coming out my g-tube when I still had it. Then, when the g-tube was removed (and before the tube-hole closed up), orange popsicle shot out my hole! That kind of leak doesn't necessarily cause a fever or infection, and there's a good chance it will heal on its own, though it happens so infrequently there are not good statistics. My doc says he will only operate again if it interferes with my weight loss. The jury is still out on that one. Let me know if I can help, Dawn. Warmth, Michele
