Reoccuring stricture or ulcer?
Hi,
I am a little beyond 4 months and am still stuggling to eat consistantly. I think I either have an ulcer, another stricture or an overly sensitive pouch.
Have any of you ever delt with this problem? How do you tell the difference between these three complications? Any suggestions for relief?
Let me know.
Hello --
Just found this forum. I had an open RNY in 1999.
Thought I was possbily headed for a revision, but needed a endoscopy to figure out the pouch size, whether the pain I've had was as suspected ulcer.
Had the scope last Thursday -- they're no problem if you've never had one -- the results were a shock. Apparently the pain is spasms of the esophogus and pouch, along with an enlarged stoma. The surgeon who performed the scope is a bariatric surgeon also. He partners with my bariatric surgeon, both were surprised. They think the spasms push food thru the enlarged stoma causing ability to eat too much.
The symptom I related to when I read the posts here were the pain point and it occurs if you've eaten or not. Both were me to a T. At times the pain felt like a gripping; when I had the stricture (soon after the 1999 surgery) it was a pain like razor blades.
I'm not yet on a treatment plan, need to get with my gastro doc. For the weekend, I'll be using pain medication.
Thought you might ask your surgeon whether a scope would be a useful diagnostic test for you.
