Did you have the lap band surgery? Have you always had this nausea. I am afraid of this happening to me. If approved I will have the lap band surgery in October....... I do not know if I could take the puking and nausea all the time. Would you have the surgery again if you could do it all over again.??? Thanks Brenda j Ure

Hi Brenda, No, I would NOT EVER do this surgery again. If I could take back time - I would not have it done at all. Lap band has ulcer problems due to the band moving and irritating the area it is at, and has many, many complications - one of which is vomiting. RNY has solid food intolerance - which I am developing, nausea and vomiting which I have dealt with since day one, hypoglacimia - which seems to be rearing it's ugly head now and then, my pain pills do not abosorb and just today was put on a dransdermal patch - so far so good. I take anti-nausea pills every six hours every day and have for months and months - that will not change more than likely. I have dizziness which PCP said today was because my blood pressure which was ALREADY low before surgery, is now lower still and that in itself is causing a myrid of problems (dizziness, vision bluring/"brownouts", co-ordination, memory) I have solid food intolerance which if I start puking - can not stop and must at ALL costs try not to start - and it can be mostly solid foods, and sometimes protein drink - but that is not as bad as the food times. Diarehha and constipation problems - if it is not one it is the other - no inbetween. Having this surgery has caused my life to change in such a way that along with the pain issues I have dealt with for several years now, I have filed for disability. I can not work, plain and simple. Good luck - that is all I can say. Look into the DS - many people are more than happy with that surgery. Only wish I would have known about that one before I had my surgery. I might (more than likely done that), and if I have no relief from these KNOWN COMPLICATIONS from the RNY - I will either do a reversal or a revison to DS. I am not one to do things lightly - I researched this very well, and knew 99% of the complications. What I did NOT know is that this board is very biased in it's postings and anything negative is pulled. I thought I had made an educated choice. I was not aware that the DS is really the more natural of the surgeries. BUT - that said - too many people I know now through several different areas of meeting them have the same issues or worse or to some extent not so bad....What I had hoped to be freedom from cronic pain and constant use of pain killers and a more active life has led to a more reclusive life for me revolving around food - what will or will not stay down, what I can and maybe can, or totally can not eat. I have filed for disablitiy after loosing the 3rd of very well paying jobs due to the inability to be there every day, be there healthy and able to work my job for the full day, doctor appointments, emergency room visit, or staying in the bathroom coz I have no other choice about that issue. Yes, I have lost now ALMOST 100 pounds. Yes - that is good and I am almost happy about that....would I do this again.....ABSOLUTLY NOT. Linda

Are you still looking into a reversal? wondering what information you have found out about it. I have been having abd pain and nausea since my surgery and I am also considering a reversal, it scares me as much as the first surgery though, but I am beginning to have my doubts that this is all going to work out and get better.

Teresa, I have that still in the back burner section of my mind. Not decided yet still. So far I have been dilitated once for a stricture and now back on solid food taking my time - big time - taking my time to eat very, very small bites and waiting three minutes in between bites. The reversal is so very long in the surgery room. I have heard as much as 8 hours, and you still are not "natural", you still have a slightly revised stomach that can still cause problems. Linda

Wow, 8 hours? What takes so long? what is different about the stomach after the reversal and what kind of problems can come up? I havn't been able to get much information and I have not seriously discussed it with my surgeon..have you gotten information from your surgeon, is he willing to reverse you? Thanks so much for responding!!!!

Teresa, 8 hours because they have to take it down and reconect all the blood supplies, take out the staples, then sewing the stomach together again and reconnceting the small intestine as best they can - which by the way - is still shorter than you had because they throw out that cut off section of the intestine that is "by-passed". The flipper thing in your original stomach looses the ability to function with each passing day that it does not get used. It is some type of valve (duh!) that keeps the food in the stomach there and I think it starts with a "P". So you still have malabsorbtion issues due to the intestine not full length and have a feeding tube in your tummy until that valve starts to work again. I read on the main board that the original surgeon doing the bypass surgery by law must do the revision if asked and approved. For approval you still must show medical neccesisty. I think I was just in the right message at the right time to read that the surgeon was liable for the reversal sugery. I think that for the most part, the original surgeon does not know there are complications or unhappiness with the surgery going on, as we I think tend to ditch those who seem to not care about our health and well being. I know that I have a wonderful surgeon, but his office ****** me off. I have to go through the office staff to get to my surgeon, and if they don't act like they care, or return my phone call messages.....I tend to take it to my PCP and we go from there. Try eating even slower than you do already. I thought I had slowed down enough, and for the most part, I am not hungery at all. I try really hard to get in one meal a day, and am eating things super, super, super slow Linda

I have not had surgery yet. I am doing the best research I can by reading profiles and asking questions. I am considering the lap-band procedure. My question to all *****plied to this posting and are still experiencing nausea....would you have the surgery again???
