SO TIRED OF THROWING UP
WELL I AM 13 MONTH OUT OF WLS AND HAVE THROWED UP PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE DAY SINCE SURGEY. WELL LAST NIGHT WHILE I WAS VOMITING, I STARTED THORWING UP BLOOD. IT WAS NOT A HUGE HUGE AMOUNT BUT A GOOD BIT. I DID NOT CALL MY WLS SURGEON BECAUSE THE LAST TIME THAT I CALLED HIM HE TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO FIND ME A GASTROINTESTINTAL DOC, BECAUSE HE (MY WLS DOC) DID NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO WITH ME. HE DOES NOT KNOW WHY I AM THROWING UP PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE DAY. SO I WENT TO A GASTRO DOC AND HE IS TRYING TO HELP ME, BUT HE CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH. HE DOESNOT PERFORM WLS AND DOESNT KNOW HOW TO TREAT ANYTHING WITH IT. SO WHAT DO I DO? WHO DO I CALL OR DO I CALL ANYONE AT ALL? I HAVE HAD COMPLICATIONS FROM THE GET GO. I DO NOT IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM REGRET THE SURGERY AND WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT; I JUST WISHED THINGS WERE ALITTLE MORE SMOOTHER. BUT I AM HOPING THAT IT WILL ALL PASS. ANY ADVICE WOULD HELP. THANKS SAM
Sam, When you said BLOOD. Well, that got my attention. I think it will get your doctors attention also. Blood could mean a ulcer. What ever you do call your Gastrointestinal doctor. That ulcer is maybe why you are throwing up. It might be bleeding. I am not trying to scare you and i'm not a doctor but yopu knoew you can bleed to death over a bleeding ulcer. Don't wait call the doctor so he can get you in to do test. I had a friend that had a bleeding ulcer and she had to get blood tranfusion becouse she messed around and let that ulcer get that bad. She knew she had a ulcer and would not do anything about it. She ended up a pretty sick puppy. I am not trying to scare you or anything. Nor am i saying what your have is a ulcer. Just a sujestion. Please don't mess around. Seeing blood is something to worry about. Just throwing up is one thing but throwing up BLOOD is another. Please promise me you will call and talk to your doctor. Call tonight. Even if it is JUST alittle bit of blood. Something inside of you is bleeding. Get help.Go to the hospital.
Thay can do test. Call your doctors answering servise. You need attention as soon as you can get it. Even if it is found that it nothing. It is better to be safe then sorry. Which blood is something to worry about.
Let us know what it is that thay found. I will be thinking about you. Debra
I had nearly the same problem, but I went to a gastro dr who did have some experience with wls. She did a scope and found that I needed to be stretched a bit, she said I had irritation at the stoma and that food was staying too long in the pouch, so when I would drink water it caused my to she also prescribed protonix, this settles the tum, it also helps heal the irritation, when I first went to my pcp about my barfing, he prescribed it also, he said by taking it for 2 weeks would probably heal a ulcer if I had one. I took it for about 2 months 2x a day. I hope you get relief soon, if Gastro dr isn't aggressive find a new one.
I wonder if you have an ulcer? I threw up alot and ended up finding out after an endoscopy (3rd one) that I had an ulcer. (Even the emergency room in my town didnt see that one!)
Or, have you even had an endoscopy done? Where they go down your throat? Maybe the opening needs widening ... or maybe you have loose staples? I also know of someone who was sick alot, and had also had her gallbladder removed at the same time of surgery (Lap RNY). However, there were 2 connecting tubes to her gallbladder -- the surgeon only closed one off. ...typically there is only one. But this lady had 2, and the other one in there, was spilling all kinds of stuff out into her body, making her very sick. So you may want to have that checked too.
...just suggestions...
Susan
I don't know if you feel the same way but does anyone else out there feel that it was really insensitive for this ladys doctor to tell her he didn't "know what else to do with her"?! I mean, the least he could've done was give her some insight as to what may be causing this problem or if he didn't have the answers to refer her to someone who DID! This man performed a life altering surgery on this woman for God's sake and here he is seeming like hes washing his hands of her.
I haven't had my surgery yet, it's scheduled for next month but you can darn well bet I'm going to make sure that I know my surgeon is going to be there for me through thick and thin before I go through with this.Samantha, may I ask why you have put yourself through months and months and months of vomiting and being sick like this? I think after about a month or so if I was still vomiting I would've gone to that doctors office and demanded that he figure out what the hell was wrong with me.
My advice to you would be to find a decent gastrointologist whos experienced in dealing with weight loss patients and find out whats wrong because when you vomit blood, its definitely not a good thing. You could have an ulcer or abcess or anything that could very well be life threatening! Good luck now...
Just wanted to give you a response to what you posted. What you're going through sounds a lot like what I went through. About 6 weeks postop, I started getting really sick. I couldn't keep anything down, including water...I basically lived in the bathroom. This went on for about 4 months, and my surgeon had said the same thing as yours. I went to neurologists, psychologist, etc. Conclusion? I had gotten gallstones, one got stuck in my pancreas and caused pancreantitis. I had to go ahead and have my gallbladder removed. However, I still couldn't eat or drink. Come to find out, when I was throwing up all the time, it made my intestine contract and close off. All that had to be done was that it needed ballooned back open. I hope that this isn't whats wrong with you, because it almost killed me. BUT, in case it is, at least you have a few other options to look in to. Hope this helps some.
