I am a very outgoing enthuziastic 22 year old who had WLS 5 1/2 weeks ago, Last week was the week of hell, I couldnt keep any liquids or food down. This really scared me after I had a complication free recovery and the doctor told me I was healing great. I went for a check up with my Doctor and he admitted me to the hospital on Friday, He then schedualed me for an endoscopy on Monday. On Monday he discovered that I had a stricture that was almost closed completly. I have been on liquids for a whole week and go back tomorrow for a second endoscopy...hopefully ill be able to eat some food again. This has been extremely discoraging for me, and Ive asked myself several times why I did this to myself.... I have lost 50 lbs so far and I cant even enjoy it because of this problem...God who knew problems because Im healing too fast. This sucks....any words of wisdom??

Not sure if they are words of wisdom but I have had 8 strictures in about a year. The last one in December finally stayed open. For me, yes they were a hassle, but so worth the weight coming off. I tried to keep a positive upbeat attitude through it all. Alice

Hello. I am scheduled for surgery 5/24. I have never heard of a stricture. What exactly is that?

its, to my knowledge, when the hole that your food empties into = closes or becomes restricted. its recognized by weight lost too fast and fixed by a bollon like object re opening the hole

A stricture is scar tissue that forms around the opening of your pouch. The scar tissue becomes thick and closes the opening of your pouch so no food or even liquid can get in. It is easily fixed by stretching the opening with an endoscopy tube.
