I had RNY on 12/7/04 and have had my share of complications, but lately things were looking up. Then last week I felt like I was getting my old friend Acid Reflux back! I called my surgeon and he reminded me that we don't get "Acid Reflux" after surgery... however it could be Gastritis??? I explained to him that I get nausea after eating and and it sounds and feels like there is a pool of water in my stomach surrounding the foods I've consumed! I had been trying the Protonix I took before surgery with no success. He suggested Mylanta and if that didn't work then I should return to taking Carafate (which they gave me for a month post surgery). If neither cured me I was to call his office back.... I found no relief from Mylanta.... and only minimal relief with carafate. Over the weekend it became worse and I even have thrown up a few times and have reflux some nights also. I did call back surgeon's office yesterday and they suggested another Endoscopy as I've had strictures in the past. I explained that I continue to have pains on right side of my back, which could be from a flare of Fibromyalgia. Surgeon advised if endoscopy was clear then we should check Gallbladder. Do gallbladder problems occur after eating food... giving you nausea without Pain? I went for endoscopy today and he said it was fine.... inflamed, but fine. I am to see him in office tomorrow to look at other possibilities. I felt stupid as I was not having the rumbling of liquid that I have been having all week... then I got home, ate and it quickly started again! OF COURSE... they make you fast before the test today.... so I felt okay. I'm eating food before I see him tomorrow so he can hear what has been happening! ANY IDEAS or Suggestions?

Hey there. 3 years post-op here. I have lost about 200lbs. I have had a lot of complications, and for your doctor to tell you that you can't get acid reflux after surgery is crazy. I have it! I have it so bad that it has caused two intestinal ulcers and a stomach ulcer. I waited so long to get this looked into that the stomach ulcer opened and caused such a severe blood infection I ended up in emergency surgery and my organs started shutting down. I am doing good now, but I still deal with acid reflux. I am on a lifelong regimin of Carafate, Protnoix, and Pepcid. If I don't take them, I am told that I will end right back up in the hospital. They also removed my gallbladder when they were in there. I knew I had some stones but I was putting off the surgery (they told me my stones were tiny). Well, it was causing me A LOT of nausea. Evertime I ate I felt like I was going to vomit. If you are experiancing the acid reflux and the nausia tell them you want to be checked for possible ulcers or adhesions on the stomach and small intestine. Your issues sound so much like what I went thru. Good Luck and good bless

Yes, you do get gallbladder pain after eating. I had one gallbladder attack back in 95. I only had one because it was so severe I had my galbladder removed immediately. The pain started by feeling like someone stabbed me inbetween my shoulder blades. Then traveled down my spine around my ribs to the front. I couldn't breathe. At the time I had no idea what was happening. I had no previous symptoms. At the emergency room when the doctor pressed on me just below my right breast under my ribs I thought I was going to die. The pain was extreme. Have the Dr do an ultrsound of your gallbladder just to make sure. I hope you feel better soon! Becky
