Blood Clots
I just came home yesterday from having my lap RNY and I am concerned about blood clots. I walked on my first day home and today I didn't feel the greatest so I didn't walk around too much. I slept for about 2 hours in the afternoon since it was hard to get comfortable sleeping. Do blood clots form within hours of not walking or moving around much? I am also concerned about where my IV was located in my wrist. It is a little swollen, red and tender to the touch. Is this something that I should be concerned about and calling my surgeon? Has anyone had these fears when they get home?
Hi Kim,
When I had my c-section I had developed a blood clot in my left leg bet it took about 2 weeks for it to show up. I had teroble pain in my leg like a charlie horse could hardly walk on it, I also found out I had a blood disorder that caused my blood to clot.
I had wls on 12-26-04 and I made it though it fine. Trust me I was scared
I dont think you have any problems to worry about, if you dont have the energy to walk around just lay down and move your legs so that the blood stays flowing. I also had wls complications but it had nothing to do with blood clots.
Good luck and take care
Michelle
Hey Michelle,
I haven't seen many on here discuss previous clotting and clotting factors, you have a clotting factor?? Which one? Are you on blood-thinners full time? Which ones? Did your surgeon do anything special for your surgery to help you avoid new clots? I'd love to talk to you about this. Feel free to email me or IM me at [email protected]
Peace,
Michelle
Hi Kimberly, I have had 2 sets of clots and I also had Lap RNY. None of my clots were related to this surgery and I do not have a blood disorder. You do get leg pain, but sometimes you get the clots and may not be sure until something seems wrong. I would not worry about it right now, but I would try to get up and move the best you can, or while you are sitting keep your legs moving some.
