I have been having really bad diahrea and painful cramping I have tried the fiber and anti diahrea medications and they are not helping. I have a problem with Malabsorbtion with all the food that I eat it goes through my system really fast and really painful. Has anyone experienced these symptoms before and will it ever regulate or go away permantely.

Sorry you are having troubles. I dont know with the RNY but with the DS and malabsorbtion it depends on what you eat. Carbs, especially simple carbs, sugars, white bread, white rice etc and also fats will cause diarrhea. Maybe do a food log for a few days and see if there is a connection. Good luck!

I have been going thru something similar for a week now. I went to the dr yesterday she suggested Immodium. While it stops the frequency of the trips to the potty they are still happening. I have an email to her because I am worried about dehyration at this point. I haven't had any serious pain just far too much tim for the Mom of a toddler to be on the potty. I am wondering if this is one of the signs of a bowel obstruction? I have no idea. These are severely watery and I dont have ny pain but then again I hae a very high pain threshold so I guess wait and see what the dr says again tomorrow. Tanis 272/207/????

For some reason I am having the worst case of constipation for a couple of days and then diahrea for about five to seven days it does not matter what I eat everything just runs through my system. I have eliminates alot of foods from my diet and just quit taking the anit diahrea mediciane because it does not work anymore. I am waiting for my test results from the lab work I had done but I think it will come back normal. I am getitng used to living with the pain and cramps because it has been a daily part of my life even before the surgery. So I am doing the best That I can everyday to maintain normal activity with my malabsortion. Tricia

I am a distal rny patient. Your problems you are having are beyond NORMAL for me. I take Lomatil for the diahrea (atleast 4 a day) and then I also take the Bentyl for the cramping. I can take atleast one pill of the Bentyl up to every four hours. I would suggest anyone who has the loose stools to have these two perscriptions in their cupboards... they have been life savers. If you are NOT taking your vitamins and protein shakes like you should......MOST ARE NOT! go to www.vitalady.com and they can help you out IMMENSLY. Feel free to email me at [email protected] God bless you, Heather
