nausea after endocopy?

Hi, I really need some help. I had my RNY surgery on 11/08/04 and after a couple of months, my surgeon determined that I needed to have my stomach opening stretched using an endoscope. Within 12 hours of the procedure, I started throwing up. Soon I was just retching and dry heaving all the time. I did have a fever, but that has since subsided. However, the nausea is still here in full-force, and I'm absolutely miserable. It's been 10 days, and I've been back to the hospital for repeated tests, but they have no idea what is wrong with me. They have even suggested that this could just be a "bug," but since I'm not improving, they seem reluctant to make that their actual diagnosis. I'm very lightheaded and retch all the time, with or without food in my stomach. Even when I do eat something, it usually stays down, but I dry-heave. Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Please, any ideas you can offer would be very helpful. I'm so tired of being sick.

Right here!!! And I was miserable. They finally admitted me for a 3rd time. I could not have anything to eat or drink for several days and they did all kinds of tests. Slowly, they started to let me have water. Then a liquid diet and eventually pureed foods, and I am now doing so much better. As it turns out I had pancreatitis. But I dry heaved constantly and wanted to do nothing but sleep. Best of Luck to you!

I had problems with nausea after my first endoscopy. I was sick for a week and didn't feel like eating. My meds made me sick and I got dehydrated. I was finally taken back in to ER and spent night as I got severe pains in my back. They thought is was kidney stones, but tests showed it wasn't. I was severly dehydrated... they kept me and filled me with five bags of IV fluids... then sent me home. I was put back on full liquid diet and as I advnacned to soft foods.... I started dry heaving again. That was about two weeks after scope. I had another scope on Thursday.... three weeks out and they reopened it again. This time I felt great afterwards and was able to eat that night! One word is make sure the food is REALLY SMALL BITES and Eat it VERY SLOW and CHEW IT WELL.... that also will make you sick if you forget that part. Good Luck!

I have had the problem you are talking about and I have not had surgery yet. Mine was caused by irritation from acid reflux. It was irritating my lungs etc and caused terrible coughing. But it left everything irritated so that even when it doesn't cause lung or bronchiole irritation, my esophagus is kind of irritated so I can start gagging. retching for no reason etc. I have been treating the acid, but believe it or not, what has helped the most on the problem is cough drops. Maybe you can get some sugar free ones and give it a try. The more I read here, I may not have the surgery, I might just let myself die from being overweight & blood pressure. Seems like you cannot win for losing.
