Anne, My doctor told me that food wouldn't help get my iron up but I thought I would try it anyways. My husband and I were at the grocery store and discovered that Cream of Wheat has 90% of your daily iron and certain flavors of oatmeal had 40-45%. So, I bought both have have been eating it on a regular basis. I will eat a bowl around 6 a.m. then for a snack around 9 a.m.... then sometimes as a snack in the evenings! I figure it's good for you and if it helps it helps and if it doesn't it's still tasty! I sometimes can't tolerate milk but I just use a tiny bit and it hasn't bothered me yet. I also was told that when you have something that calls for spaghetti sauce to cook the sauce in an iron skillet and the sauce will absorb the iron in the skillet. I have NO clue if it would be true but I have been doing that just in case it helps. Good luck and keep me up to date on how things go.
