hi all, I recently had open rny on 12/27/04, I am now 9days post op all of a sudden last night I started getting this constant pain in my left abdominal area right where my drainage tube was. Its really sharp an constant like severe gas or like I pulled something. I tried gasx that didnt work.I called my doctor and he told me to take a fleet enema, since I hadnt had a bowel movement since surgery. I did that and had bowel movement. I called him a couple hrs later because I was still having pain. I go to see him tommorrow and he also called in a subscription for pain.(darvacet). If anyone has any idea what this could be please let me know. I am not throwing up or having any diaheria. I do drink crystal lite. I heard this could cause problems but not sure. I also definetly am not getting enough water by itself. Please help anyone.

Hello, I hope your Dr. has solved your pain problem. I have pains also & I am 7 weeks 3 dyas out of open surgery.Did you have your gallbladder removed? Sometimes the inside of your stomach gets runbbed & irritated from the tube being inside it, sometimes causing slight bleeding in your drain tube. My Dr. says my pains are from "stretching the incision" which feels like "searing, ripping, tearing muscle pains. Caused by over exertion. Lifting, bending, reaching over your head or dragging things. So needless to say, I do nothing around my house. LOL. Sometimes it even hurts when I sneeze, cough or even walk. Sometimes it limits my exercising. If over exertion is the reason for your pain,..slow down & give your body a chance to heal, that is hard for me, but my body keeps reminding me! LOL As for crystal lite, alot of WLS patients drink it. i have no problem with it. DRINK your water, it's very important, try, try, try. Make sure you are getting in your protein as well. ISOPURE in the GLASS BOTTLES have 40 grams of protein in a 20 ounce bottle. It comes in different flavors, but can be expensive. I wish U well..let me know what your Dr. says about your pain. Shannon

hello Shannon, Thanks for your reply. I did go to my Dr yesterday and he did a cat scan and didnt see anything. He also said that It was probably irritation to my muscle because it is real sensitive right now. and the muscle is right at the same area I had my drain tube is. I also have been lifting grocery bags which I didnt think were that heavy and a little cleaning. I tried sleeping on my side after the 9Th day. that might have done something not sure. Anyway my Dr gave me something for pain and he said to contact him if pain is still there in 2days. How long does this pain last. because w/o medication it hurts really bad. I appreciate you getting back to me, you definitely shed some light on this problem.

I am 7 weeks out of surgery and when I lift grocery bags, or anything the weighs over 5 pounds....I will hurt later on. I have a water bed that I now sleep on (I slept in a recliner for the first 5 weeks post op) and sometimes turning or getting in & out of bed I strain a muscle. A couple people I know that had this surgery, one siad he had pains for about 1 year, another said she never had pains. So I am guessing since each individual is different their pains will be too. Sometimes just the "jiggeling" from walking may hurt. I'm guessing the more we heal, the less we'll hurt. You may email me @: [email protected] you like. Where do you live? I live in Arkansas. Warmest Wishes, Shannon
