Abscess experiences?

So I just got out of a horrible hospital experience (not at the place my procedure was performed - bad me!). The end result was that I have an abscess in my left side and now there is this huge drainage bag hanging there collecting this nasty liquid. Part of me is so happy to be home - the nurses were very understaffed - the doctors really didn't talk to us. But then again it's almost a nice feeling that when you want pain medicine (and it's time you can have some) they give it in your IV and you're asleep. Someone brings your meals to you - they're are their watching over you so part of me is sad to be out. I think part of this is the depression kicking in and the fact none of the food in my refrigerator sounds appetizing (because I hate to cook). I'm hoping that by getting back into the routine of work and trying to eat on a more normal schedule things will get easier. But regardless for anyone with an abscess if they'd like to share their stories. For now they simply had radiology go in with the cat scan to put the drain in so thankfully they didn't open me back up but I have to follow up with my surgeon next Wednesday - hopefully it'll be smooth sailing past that point! Thanks in advance for any info, Elizabeth Revis

I also had an abscess. My drain was in for a little more than two months. It was rough. I had my surgery in Richmond Va. but I am from Florida. I had difficulty eating-- used soft cheese and Unjury for my protein. I am fine now have lost 125 lbs since may 20, 2004. Good luck Leanne Littrell
