Hi Gang, I need to let someone know what is going on and maybe I will feel better. However, I do go to my Surgeon for a 1 week check-up from my last hospital stay. I am post-op and not quite 2 months out and have been in the hospital twice....Nausea, Vomiting & Direahea. I was dehydrated and very low on vitamins. I got out of the hosp last thursday and I'm still sick. Only getting about 5-10 grms protein daily and 8-12 oz of fluids. I know! I know! Not near enough! But I can't stand no more than 2 bites at a meal, or no more than 2 - 3 swallows at a time. And I am so nausea that I am scared of vomiting, so I tend to shy away from the food and liquids. My last hosp stay, I developed a cough. It's been a week and I still have the cough. I don't have a cold. Just a cough.. My ribs, stomach and back muscles are so sore from coughing. I don't know if my lungs are hurting in my back or if it's just muscles. I am so sore that I can't rest good. I toss & turn all the time that I am in bed...cause I hurt so bad from laying in one place more than a few mins. Ok... has anyone expereinced this cough? ~Jo~

Go ahead and whine. I just got out of the hospital myself. I had to have a PICC line put in so I can get enough fluids and nuitrition at home via IV infusion. I have home health care to assist with dressing changes, etc. I have an ulcer at the anastamosis between my pouch and the small intestine - something seen on endoscopy (so they would have seen it if you had it). A lot can account for the repeated dehydration, so don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe you should talk to your surgeon about a PICC line for awhile to take the pressure off and prevent rehospitalization. It's not a great solution, but it beats being in the hospital. Good luck.

Hey Jo, I had problems with nausea post op and Zofran really helped me so that I could eat a little more. It did go away though. I have been in the hospital quite a bit lately and from laying in the bed so much, I did get a cough, but with activity it went away. I also have a PICC line and get iv fluids and nutrition because I eat/drink about the same amount as you do. It really is a lifesaver, but I would not recommend it unless it is a last resort. I have had mine now for months and would love to get rid of it. Hope that you feel better soon! Mandy

I am now 18 months out but have had my share of problems. May 03, WLS surgery 5 weeks later hospitalized for dehydration and nausea. 5 more weeks later, same thing but with bad pain. My original surgeon gave me meds for nausea but they didnt work at all then he stopped returning my calls. 5 weeks later, had my gallbladder taken out and was a lot better for a long time. I had another surgery June 04 (biopsy for breast lump) and surgery again 6 weeks ago for hernia, but ended up having my entire abdominal wall rebuilt because the whole thing was herniated. I'm a little tired of all the complications I have had and am probably suffering from a little bit of depression too. I'm just really worried right now about reoccurence of a hernia....that was the worst surgery so far. I had a really bad cough before hernia surgery, my intestines would pop out everytime I coughed!
