Hi. I am almost 6 days post-op and I am really worried that I may develop one. Can someone please tell me what the symptoms or signs are? I have a very rich family history of blood clots so I really worry. Please let me know the signs, I know shortness of breath... but what else? Thanks so much! Amber

Sometimes the shortness of breath can be the only sign. I had a shortness of breath episode that lasted maybe for a few minutes and then went away like it never happened. Told my dr and he checked my oxygen level -- 98%. So he did a bunch of heart tests. Everything came back fine. A month later had another brief episode and dr sent me to lung specialist. This dr ran breathing tests and I passed them all with flying colors! Thankfully, he decided to run a nuclear lung scan and guess what??? There they were -- pulmonary emoboli. I was immediately sent the the hospital and put in ICU. There they found a bunch more blood clots in my leg. There were NO signs -- no swelling, no redness, no tenderness, no anything! I had been walking around for over a month with clots without any of the signs showing up in tests or anything! My pulsox level the whole time never ever went below 97%. I am an active person and don't fit into any of the categories of why this should have happened. (I haven't had WLS). I then found out about family history and genes and blood clots problems that can be genetic. If you have any questions or doubts please talk to your doctor! Nag him/her if you have to, epecially with your family history of blood clots. Good luck!
