Dang it! I hate to hear that you are having problems. Try and stay positive and heal, heal, heal. It just will take you a little more time to get back into the norm. I hope to hear shortly that you are losing and off TPN. Best of everything to you!

HEY LISA, I WAS JUST EXPLORING THE BOARDS AND LOOK WHO I FOUND....YOU YOU KNOW WHAT,I WORK IN PEDIATRIC NURSING AND ALOT OF OUR PATIENTS HAVE TO BE PUT ON TPN,FOR MANY ISSUES,ANYWAY WHEN YOU FIRST TOLD BAF ABOUT YOU GOING ON TPN I SAID TO MYSELF BEACUSE MY PATIENTS THAT WAS ON IT ACCUTALLY GAINED WEIGHT,SO I THINK IT WOULD BE KINDA HARD TO LOOSE WEIGHT WHILE ON IT,SO WE WILL JUST HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PRAY THAT THEY WILL D/C THE TPN NEXT WEEK,I WAS ALSO READING THAT SOMEONE ELSE,I BELIEVE ON THE MAIN MESSAGE BOARD SAID THAT THEY WERE ON TPN TOO,BUT SHE SAID HER DOC TOLD HER THAT IT WOULD BE LIKELY THAT SHE WOULD NOT LOOSE WEIGHT WHILE SHE WAS ON IT. SO PLEASE TRY TO KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP,AND YOU KNOW THAT YOUR IN MY PRAYERS. GOD BLESS EBONY

Dear Lisa, Don't worry about losing weight while on the TPN. My original surgery was 09-2002 and my revision was 01-2003. I was hospitalized again in 03-2003 and all three visits I was on TPN for my entire hospital stays. I did not lose any weight while on the TPN, but even gained a few pounds. Don't fret about not losing while on it, and don't worry if you actually gain a few pounds. It is designed to maintain and sustain you while on it. The TPN is doing your body so much good, and after you are off of it, the pounds will start melting away very quickly. I had severe complications and was dehydrated, mal-nourished and deficient in so many vitamins. I felt better physically from the treatment and gained 12 pounds during my hospitalization in Jan. 2003. A week after I went back home the I lost the 12 pounds, but still felt so much better. Your weight loss WILL be jump started as soon as you go off it. Don't get depressed---I have "been there, done that" and you will be on the losing side once again really soon! Monica

Hi Lisa I have been on TPN for over almost two months now. It is amazing how much fat and calories they pack in that darn bag! My doctor said that I should maintain while on the TPN, not lose or gain. He did decrease the fat content a week ago and my weight has quit going up, so that is good. But, I know what ya mean, when you are used to losing and then it stops, it really stinks. But, hang in there, hopefully you will be off soon and you will begin losing again. I can't wait for that to happen and this darn picc line to come out of my arm! Good luck! Mandy

Hello Lisa! Like you I am also on TPN. I have been on it for 6 weeks now. I have put on weight, but that is my goal. I was down to 106 pounds, which could be a good weight but not when your mal-nourished and dehydrated. I am happy to say I am up to 122 and crossing my fingers that I will be able to tolerate food on my own when the PICC comes out. I developed an ulcer, and Im going to a specialist today to see what I can do about it. So hang in there gal!! fingers crossed. btw.. I'm waiting to 8 am for the TPN to finish.. hahah
