Extreme Exhaustion at 17 months post op

I've been exeriencing extreme lethargy and memory loss for about 4 months. My labs were normal at my last post op visit except for a border-line low hg/hct. I'm due to see my surgeon in November. I have fibromyalgia and have to take several medications including: Effexor XR, Welbutrin, Flexeril (at bedtime) for sleep. I think it may be the medications but they didn't effect me this badly before the surgery. I eat enough protein and take a lot of supplements. My fluid intake needs a little work sometimes. But, nutritionally, I think I'm doing okay. I would appreciate hearing if anyone has experienced anything like this. Thanks, Lynn

Hi Denise, I tried to read your reply but was unable to see it. I must be doing something wrong since this is my first time using this message board. Would you try again? Thanks, Lynn

Sorry, I don't know what happened! I had the extreme exhaustion too a month ago and I went to get all my labs drawn. Everything came back normal so after talking to alot of people I found that I was cutting back too severely on my carbs. Carbs are energy and they help the body and brain function. I added a half slice of wheat bread or a few wheat thins, etc...and it made all the difference in the world. I'm still losing just as fast and now I have so much more energy to function. Maybe this will help you. Good luck. Denise

I do have to ask if your sure this is from the RNY. I have NOT had surgery but I DO have fibromyalgia. I tend to go through chronic times of not being able to get enough sleep no matter what I do, and what I would call brain FOG! Could be just the cycle of having fibromyalgia. IF this is the case might need some med changed for the fibro? Blessings, katie

Hi Katie, Thanks for the input. You may very well be correct about the "fibro-fog." Or maybe it's menopause, fibro-fog and lack of exercise. I am currently being switched to a different anti-depressant to see if that will help. It is really a challange to live with fibro, isn't it? Well, it's back to the drawing board. I'm going to a support group meeting for SWL individuals at goal or at least 1 year out. My surgeon will be there this evening. Guess what I'm going to ask him? Thanks again, Lynn

I am 20 mos post op from RNY and I, too, have been struggling w/extreme exhaustion. In fact, it's a relief to see that others may have been too (not that I want them to suffer but you know what I mean). I also had tons of labs done. I give myself B-12 shots each month, have been increasing my supplements. I have also been increasing complex carbs. I've started having terrible bouts with hypoglycemia. I have had fibro in the past and know that it cycles around but this seems like more than just that. I also started having migraines for the 1st time in my life 2 mos ago. And for about 1 month, severe bruising which came and went. I saw my surgeon who said that it's important to remember that our bodies have been in a severe state of malnutrition and that it may take some time before things get "back to normal". I have also, in the last month, been struggling with wt gain. Increase exercise? well, I never really exercised regularly anyway. Suffer from bipolar disorder with mostly severe depression. Anyway, I understand what it's like. Let's hope things will get better. I'd love to have some energy!
