I was just diagnosed with thrush and according to the dr. it can be caused by a rapid increase in the metobolic rate. Hence, having the surgery and losing weight, working out and basically reviving you metabolism can result in a side affect of thrush. Just wanted to let others know to look out for this since it is ususally an infant/child thing.

Hi Nicole! Thanks for the warning. What kind of symptoms did you have that lead you to go to your doctor? Were you in pain? How is "thrush" treated? I'm pre-op and trying to get a real understanding of what things can go wrong post-op so that I can make a fully informed decision. Any info that you choose to share is greatly appreciated. Hope that you're doing well! Take care! Cassandra

I was just diagnosed with Thrush yesterday! What a wacky coincidence. My doc gave me a presecription for Diflucan tablets. Hopefully it will work. I had this thick coating on my tongue and when I tried to bru**** off with a toothbrush, my tongue started bleeding - YUK!!! I say - see your doc! Ronda

Thrush is a side effect of antibiotics killing all the 'good' bacteria in the body it is very similar to a yeast infection. Difluacan will get rid of it quickly it also helps to eat yogurt after you are done with any coarse of antibiotics to help restore the natuaral balance of good bacteria. Best thing to do while you are waiting for the medicine to kick in is to lightly scrape the stuff off your tongue with a spoon, thats what my dr told me to do.

I left the hospital with thrush. I didn't know what it was. Just thought my mouth and tongue were dry. I had not had anything for 7 days. When I went in for my two week checkup they diagnosed. They gave me some liquid stuff I had to swish around in my mouth. It went away a week or so later.
