I am almost 1month post op and for the last 3 days I have unbearable gas pains. I can feel the gas moving around in my intestines but i can't pass it. The pain is in spasms getting worse and worse every 3 seconds. Warm tea Eases the pain for a while, but then it just comes back. GasX and malox doesn't help! ANyone have any ideas?

Could you talk to your Dr about trying anything like a Fleets glycerine suppository? or a Fleets enema? Also, ask him/her about colace or some other form of stool softner. RK

I always have my patients walk when they have gas, it works via gravity and motility to get it out of you. You can also try to act like your climbing a ladder with your arms, stretch them above your, alternating one up while the other is down, and when your arm is up squeeze your hand into a fist, this helps strecth your intestines some, and may be of help, its worth a try!

Have you added something new to your diet? Soy gave me killer gas pains that woke me up in the middle of the night. Once I quit the soy based protien drinks the gas problem went away in a matter of hours. Good Luck!

Hi! Were you able to solve the problem of your severe gas pains? I'm in the pre-op phase - working on getting all of my medical clearances. It would help me to know how people have solved some of their post-op challenges. Did a change in diet (eliminate soy, etc.) work or did you have to go to your doctor? I hope that you are feeling much better! Cassandra

I was having terrible gas pain and was very juicy mouthed. . . .spitting is gross. Anyways, I used GasX and started marching place.....a nice refreshing poop and everything was fine, but then it came back again. On a hunch, I stopped drinking crystal light. . . it decreased, as did the drooling. Coincidink? I don't know. But it worked for me. . .no more aspertane for this little brown duck.

Hey Cassandra!
I had Gastric Bypass in June 2004 and in January 2005 I was having MAJOR gas pains that would come and go like contractions.  I couldn't pass anything either.  I finally went to my doctor who immediately put me in the hospital to do exploratory of my abdomen.  Come to find out, I was losing so fast that a couple of my sutures had come loose causing holes in my intestines.  When I would eat, my intestines would "contract" and were being "sucked" in and out of the holes, hence the major pains.

Go see your doctor.  He may say it will pass, but rather be safe than let it get worse.  I am now 5 years out and I am starting to experience a different kind of gas pain.  It is relieved when I sit or bend for a few minutes.  The weirdest thing!  But....I am not eating or drinking the right things, so I have decided to just "start over" and get off the caffeine and other things I shouldn't be eating.

Please keep us posted.  I will check in from time to time!
Blessings!
