peptic ulcer at the anastamosis
Have you guys heard or known of problems with gastric ulcers???
I'm almost 4 yrs post op and have developed a sturborn ulcer where the intestine is attatched to the stomach. It is not responding to any treatment so far and is slowly bleeding. I have been told I may end of with surgery. I was told it is not healing because of a poor blood supply in that area. has anyone know of this happening and did it get better with surgery. I have been treating it for about 2 months now.

Hi Glenda,
I'm post-op a year and a half...I have a bunch of little ulcers in the same place...they are stubborn little suckers! I have been hospitalized twice for loosing to much blood. Currently being treated wtih Protonix medicines...currently prilosec twice a day...you need to really be careful if you start to get light headed more often, feel unnaturally fatigued...Because of the slow bleed your hemoglobin can get dangerously low...Let me know if you found anything else out...so far no surgery suggestions from my docs...I'm in Chicago..you?
I'm 14 mo post op. I've had an ulcer at the same spot as you since my RNY. I've been on all kinds of meds and it just won't heal. The GI doc is talking about ulcer surgery and I've been trying to find info also. I've been on stomach meds constantly since 99. I hope you have found some help by now. Sue 9/16/03 325/180

I had a gastric ulcer 6 weeks post-op. I missed the early symptoms and it ate through my stomach to an artery. I almost bled to death. After 8 units of blood they went in and injected the ulcer with epinephrine. I was on a liquid diet for 10 days, and on meds for 4 months. It has healed but my doc does stool checks for blood routinely to make sure it does not come back. (I missed the symptoms because I have a neuropathy, so I experienced no pain)
