I have not lost a single pound in about a month. I am not at my goal weight or my doctors goal weight. I have lost 96 pounds in six months . Is it normal to not loose for so long, has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Christy, I have not had surgery yet so my knowledge comes only from what I read. I have read many hundreds of profiles in the last few weeks as I am doing some intensive research on wls. I can not even begin to tell you how many profiles I have read where people stated that they were on a plateau. Sometimes these plateaus last only a couple of days and sometimes they last a couple of months. I have even read one or two that lasted for almost six months. At six months I might seriously re-evaluate what I am eating and my excercise routine. Many people just enjoy losing and don't excercise until they reach a serious plateau. Then they jump start their weight loss again with excercise. Good luck and don't give up. the body can only take so much before it needs a break, then it will most often kick back into gear.

I too have not had my surgery yet, but one suggestion from the support group I am going to is to write down everything you are eating, include amts so you can see if you are eating the correct number of calories per day. Also track how much you are excercising. Perhaps this may give you some insight. Also check with your surgeon, if you find that you are eating the right amts etc. Good Luck!!!

Hello there! Losing 96 lbs is wonderful! Now here's what I've read about plateaus: Sometimes when you don't get in enough calories daily the body thinks it's in starvation and it'll stop losing and sometimes you will actually gain some weight. You can combat this by keeping your calorie intake above 1000 and it actually helps you to lose weight by splurging once in a while. By taking in different amounts of calories each day you can either avoid plateaus or else keep them short. Example: eat 1000 calories on Monday, 1,400 on Tuesday, 1,900 on Weds, Then back to 1000 on Thursday. Another cause is your body catching up and although you're not losing pounds, you are losing inches.

Hang in there! This is not the end of the road. The other suggestions are grea****ER and your excercise routine are very important. Maybe that you need to drink more or just change the excercise rountine. Not eating enough calories will make your body stop losing too. You can call the your nutrionist to see where the recommend calortie intake for you is at this stage. Make sure that your getting your protien in it will also make a big difference. Goodluck I'm sure with some minor adjustments you'll be back on track! 300/228/175 -72
